Surprise Surprise

After an hour of driving to I don't know where I finally have the courage to keep asking where he is taking me to.

"To an old friend of mine named Alyssa". Mason finally responds.

I look surprised 'sounds like Alissa, my friend.'

Mason nods "But it's not her"

'Is she a vampire?' I curiously ask.

"Yes. By the way, I need you to put off your phone right now, can you do that?"

I nod.

After 10 minutes of driving it looks like we have arrived. "We're here" Mason eventually says as we drive up a large driveway made of little white pebbles.

'It.. it's beautiful' I say full of admiration. I look around and see all kind of trees and colorfully flowers around the big driveway.

When we stand still, I get out and look around. Mason walks towards the front door under the white balcony. He uses the door knocker and then waits. After a minute or two a lady opens the door, probably Alyssa. She has pink-red hair and it looks beautiful on her.

I immediately see a smile on her face when she looks at Mason "Long time no see, Mason"

Her voice sounds friendly. Then she looks at me. "I'm Alyssa, but you can call me Ally too if you like". She introduces.

'I'm Mandy' I respond shy.

"Come on in"

We walk in and sit down on a couch in a big light living room. She sits down on another couch in front of us.

"So what brought you here, Mason?" Alyssa asks.

I see Mason is hesitating a little. "It's Zach.." He starts.

Alyssa's smile has turned to serious now. "You shouldn't have come.. he will kill me if he finds out you two are here! After what I've done to him.." She warns fearfully.

"He won't figure out where we are, he doesn't even know you're still alive.."

"But what if he does figure it out?" Alyssa asks.

Mason remains quiet.

"That's what I thought" she says firm. "I need you two to get out of here, please.. for my sake".

Mason stands up from the couch and sits down next to her. "Listen, I promise: he is not going to find out"

I notice Alyssa already lightens up a little and then she nods "I hope so".

"Can we crash here for a few days?" Mason asks a few minutes after an awkward silence of processing.

"Yes, but you'll have to make up your own bed. There are enough rooms in this house. But first I suggest we go out for a walk, we have some catching up to do".

Mason and I nod, stand up and then walk outside with her.

After a few hours of walking, talking and explaining we arrive at the house again. When Alyssa opens the door we all startle.

"Surprise, surprise" Zach says loud and happy-ish.

Mason immediately gets into a protection position. "Leave, Zach" he warns.

Zach looks fake-confused at Mason. "What? I just arrived! By the way Mason, you still have a little bl.." He gestures at his mouth. "you know.."

Mason wipes off his mouth and then looks in a mirror on the wall nearby.

Zach laughs. "Priceless" He says at the moment he sees Mason realizes he doesn't have any blood around his mouth. Then Zach looks at Alyssa and walks towards her. She is just standing there, stiffened and confused.
