Watching - Chapter 46

The slamming sound of a book hitting the table in front of me snaps me out of my train of thought.

"What's this?" I ask Taylor, picking the magazine up,

"Have a look," He sighs, leaning against the bench and staring at his feet.

As I flip it over to reveal the cover, my eyes don't leave his face which looks remotely sad and upset, which is un-usual for him.

As I set the back of the magazine onto the table, I notice why he is upset. The person who was 'following' Jamie and I, got a photo when he was kissing the top of my head, and the massive bold letters saying,

'Is Zaylor over?'

"No," I mutter, "No, no, no, no!" I squeal, "Taylor I-"

"Didn't mean it? I thought you were aware Zoe. I thought you would have realized that they were watching,"

"Taylor-"

"You would think, that you might have figured out that the paparazzi loves you and follows you everywhere," He mutters solemnly, finally meeting my eyes with his, "This is why I called you, to try and remind you about me but it obviously didn't work,"

"Remind me? You're in every thought that I have!"

"Then why did this happen!" 

This is the first time, in our whole relationship that he has ever raised his voice at me; and I don't like it at all.

"I was careless, and was wrapped up in seeing my best-friend," I sigh, looking back to the cover and flicking to the main story.

"Zoe Echo and Taylor Lautner's relationship may not be as it seems. The 19 year old who has been with Taylor for the last year has been spotted with another man, who apparently is a close 'friend' of Zoe. Sources say that they were seen having coffee and walking around, laughing and hugging each other as if they were the only two people on the planet. Zoe reportedly returned to Taylor's house (where they both live) straight after, but said nothing of the occasion. We do not know what will happen from now on but will there no longer be a Zaylor?"

I read the article out to him and every word breaks my heart a little bit more, "But, that's not what it is like at all!"

"That's the point Zoe, it's a story they came up with to make some money,"

"Taylor, I'm so sorry! I'll fix this!"

"And how are you going to do that?" He scoffs, walking towards our bedroom,

"I don't know but I will! I'll talk to Kristen, ask her what I can do,"

"And why would she know?"

"She's a girl and knows about being in the spotlight! Just trust me! Please! You know that it isn't actually true, right?"

His lack of response worries me, "Taylor I have known Jamie forever, he's another brother to me," His silence is louder than anything he could actually say to me, "You can't be serious. Now you're just being ridiculous,"

"I'm being ridiculous!? I'm not the one on the front cover of a magazine with another persons lips on my forehead!"

"No but you're supposed to be the one person that knows me better than anyone and knows that this little story isn't true," I say, waving the magazine around in front of me, "Call Jamie if you like,"

"You realize that loyalty is everything to me, right?"

"Of course I do, and I am loyal. Just because I have a guy best friend doesn't mean I'm cheating on you, does it?"

"No-"

"Exactly! So it's the same as you and Kristen. If they saw you two out and about hugging and stuff then they would think the same thing about you! It could happen to anyone Taylor and it just happened to be us,"

His gaze blazes into my eyes and seems to stop time all together, "I'm going to bed, I'll see you tomorrow,"

He backs into our room, and shuts the door as soon as he was past the threshold. I sink into the chair I was sitting in before, not realizing I was standing up, and flicking to the page of photos that threaten to ruin my acting career, but most importantly, my relationship.
