CHAPTER 1 - 3113
- Zeki's POV
The rain is pounding on the cobble stones as I run across them. The clouds have submerged the sky in a heavy dull light, which can't be dispersed. The whole of London is plunged into darkness, the electricity has gone again. No lights. No heat. No powers. Just Fantastic, I'm cold and wet and I can't see where I'm going.
Buzz Beep. I squeeze the black, plaster detector tighter in my hand. Shut up, you bloody insistent plastic block, I know I'm running late to base, no need to be so fricken' loud. People could be following me, I can't help I'm a peoples' magnet. I just can't help suck a reaction out of people.
My strides quicken, in response. This is all the stupid Domi Society's fault, I don't understand, why they have to always call us to London and it wouldn't hurt them to give us a little more notice before hand, as well. Then this stupid black Detector wouldn't go off so much.
In fact, why the hell do they always have to ask me anyway, there's a four billion people out there, for them to pick on. But no, they have to freaken' pick on Zeki, I know I'm experienced and a well-rounded fighter, but I do need a break from their wrathful mind games.
One day, I'll figure out a way to escape this Domi Society, without blowing myself up and taking everyone I know, down with me. One day I will. It's my life's ambition. This constant grip on my life, is becoming so suffocating, I need get myself out of it. I must.
At least the sickening smell of horse faeces is drowned away by the storm; one of the few advantages of the frequent storms. They said the storms were part of the British weather, like its normal to have hurricanes and snowstorms in the middle of summer, then it was global warming now its overuse of powers. I wonder what's next, the population size is too large?
The brick house looms up on my right; it looks the same as we left it a year ago: the thick vines embracing the elaborate exterior of home, the white paint peeling off the window sills. But now the living room window is flickering with firelight, while the rest of the windows are dark hollows, unlived in.
We never stay long in this house, always moving trying to get our missions over and done with. But it's still gives me a little comfort that it's still standing, despite that everything changes so quickly around us.
My boots crunch the gravel path, the navy blue door is ajar. Why have they left it open? Talk about being forgetful. Strangers can come in, don't they realize that they're people out there, that would eat our brains, just to make sure we're dead instead of just simply stabbing us in the heart and then throwing into a deep muddy pit?
We have made too many enemies in the world but I guess that's what makes life interesting, being hated. Not everyone will like you but Sap begs to differ, Mr Perfect.
Pushing the door open, enough for me to go through, I enter the dark hallway. Their muffled voices can be heard behind the door emitting the warm glow from the edges. They are here but why leave the door open, anyone can step in? I lock the front door, then creep towards the living room door, I swing it open silently, careful not to be heard.
