"It's either this or my mum's flower pants."
I scowled at the bright green tracksuit he was holding. Due to my lack of appropriate attire, and Taehyung persistently telling me that I could not farm whilst wearing jeans, he ended up borrowing his sisters clothes for me.
"Fine I will wear the tracksuit," I sulked, grabbing it from his hand.
I ushered him out of my house so that I could get changed, which of course did not happen in silence due to my endless cursing.
I looked at myself in the mirror once I had put on the hideous tracksuit. At least on me they didn't look half as bad, thanks to my model physique. I put on the wellington boots which was also Taeyeon's and went out to join Taehyung. He offered to help teach me the basics of farming in his family's field first before I actually start my own.
As we trudged on the muddy soil, he enthusiastically began his lecture about the many different plants out there and stuff that I genuinely didn't care much about.
I would simply nod along and occasionally give a short reply to show that I was still with him. But in all honesty it was simply jargon to my ears because I couldn't understand half of what he was saying.
"You can start off by pulling out the weeds."
He pointed at the small area and handed me a huge rake. I took it from his hand and started diligently working to make it seem like I knew what I was doing. For the next few minutes we silently worked to clear up the area and would occasionally stop to do a little stretch, due to having our back bent for long periods of time.
"Oh, I almost forgot!" he suddenly exclaimed, "Hold on a minute, I'm going to bring something."
What is he up to now?
I shrugged my shoulders and continued working.
I was suddenly awakened from my concentration by the loud sounds of engines roaring. I looked up to see Taehyung sitting in a tractor, a huge smile plastered across his face. I walked up to him, staring at the old tractor in awe.
"Meet my precious baby," he said, as he jumped off.
"Can I ride it?" was the first thing I asked.
He was quick to turn me down, much to my disappointment.
"But I have a driver's license and I can actually drive really well," I said proudly, putting my hands on my hip.
"It's not the same," he chuckled.
I scowled at his mocking response. The shape was not exactly the same but I was sure it couldn't be that different from riding a car.
How hard could it be?
I was sure Taehyung was just underestimating me and I didn't like that. I wanted to prove to him that I could ride the tractor just as easily. So when he wasn't looking, I done what I do best. Being impulsive.
I climbed onto the tractor and started the engine.
Taehyung quickly turned around and I saw his eyes widen in shock, which caused me to smirk at him.
The smirk soon was wiped off my face once I realised that what Taehyung said was true. It was nothing like driving a car.
"Pull the brakes Ara!"
I could faintly hear him running behind me but his shouting was drowned by my deadly screaming and the roaring of the tractor. I was too busy panicking to even understand what he was saying.
I swerved to the left and then to the right, treading over crops and rocks; causing me to violently jump around on the seat.
My screams got louder when I realised I was heading towards a man peeing in front of a river. He turned around and was a second too slow to move out of the way, causing me to swerve.
I managed to avoid the man but couldn't avoid the huge rock in front of me. I hit it with so much impact that it caused me to fall sideways and plummet into the river.
I sputtered out the water and wiped away my wet fringe that was stuck to my forehead. I choked and coughed due to the amount of water I had swallowed. My whole body was soaked and the bright green tracksuit had darkened due to the wetness.
"Oh no, my poor baby," exclaimed Taehyung, stroking the tractor.
He looked like he was on the verge of tears and so was I. My whole body, especially my bottom was aching from the horrible experience. I stood up shivering in the cold water, the clothes felt ten times heavier as it weighed me down.
"What is wrong with you?" he shouted at me.
I ask myself that every day.
I sagged my shoulders and looked down at the water, feeling ashamed of what I had done. I always had this unnecessary need to always prove people wrong and I guess this time I had epically failed.
"I..I am so sorry," I quietly muttered.
Taehyung was too busy pulling the tractor away from the rock to even hear what I had said. A scowl plastered on his face.
"I will buy you a new tractor next time."
That made him stop instantly. He looked up to meet my eyes and for a second I thought the issue was solved. However I was terribly wrong.
His glare made me wince, but what made me feel worse was when his expression contorted into a look full of sadness. He squeezed his eyes shut and furrowed his brows as he let out a deep sigh.
I tried my best to find a fault in what I had said. Quite frankly speaking, I thought I was being pretty reasonable.
"You can't solve everything with money, Ara. When will you understand that?"
My face hardened, at least I tried to show no expression. I couldn't help but flinch at his harsh words because it was equivalent to him slapping me across the face.
I guess it was true that I always tried to fix a problem by selling it off using my power and wealth. I never realised it before because the trick had always worked well.
This time I was unsuccessful. I was still pretty clueless as to why it didn't work, but that didn't stop me from feeling the guilt of inflicting so much pain onto him.
I watched as he climbed onto the tractor and drove off. A sigh of relief escaped my mouth as soon as I heard the engine.
At least it still works. So I guess I don't have to buy him a new one.
"You screwed up. Big time," said the man who I had almost hit earlier.
I looked up to see his face, he was the drunk man from the party and unsurprisingly he was holding a soju bottle in one hand. I ignored him and finally pulled myself out of the shallow river.
"That old damned tractor meant a lot to him," he continued before taking another chug of the bottle.
"Thanks for stating the obvious," I said, rolling my eyes.
"No you don't understand-Like it meant hell of a lot to him," he persisted.
I sighed and dragged myself away from the man and his painstakingly obvious comments. But suddenly halted when I heard him mutter-
"It was his last memory of his father."
A/N Things are starting to get a bit serious now. However I will try not to get too angst because I tend to always like to write depressing ish.
