Two days had gone by in a blink of an eye and I still hadn't talked to him since our falling out. I was too nervous to talk to him and ask for forgiveness. I was hoping by now that I would have gotten over this guilt, but the feeling only grew stronger.
"It was his last memory of his father."
I remember feeling a shiver down my spine, not because of the cold from the river water- but due to those words. I for one knew perfectly well what it was like to lose someone you love and so that only worsened my guilt.
But Taehyung was partly to be blamed for this tension because every time he saw me, he would just walk straight past without even batting an eye. It got to the point where even Yosub started to notice the awkwardness between the two of us.
I couldn't take it any longer, so here I was. Standing in front of his door, which I had been staring at for the past five minutes- contemplating if I should knock or not.
I lifted my knuckle to knock but the door flung wide open. Taehyung strode forward almost knocking into me. I stepped back quickly before we could make contact and he looked at me with wide surprised eyes, mirroring my own.
This time he was wearing a blue tracksuit. I wondered if he had one of every colour and shade-
Stop going off track, Ara.
"I was going to- I was just- "
I winced at how high – pitched my voice sounded, due to my nervousness. I cleared my throat and wiped my sweaty palms against my jeans.
"Can I talk to you for a while?" I asked, my racing heart thudding against my chest. I tried my best not to seem nervous, but my shaky voice gave it away.
Taehyung continued to stay put for a few more seconds, before taking a deep breath in. He stepped forward and closed the door behind him. He walked down the little steps and turned to look up at me.
"Sure then, you can join me for my little walk," he said. He stuffed his hands in his pocket before walking off.
I pursed my lips to stop the smile that was already starting to form on my face. I then quickly ran up to him- a bit too eagerly.
Keep your cool.
We stayed in an awkward silence for the next few minutes. I always walked a step behind him, as I was too uncomfortable to be by his side. I was too busy trying to think of how to apologize because it was rare for me to do so. I couldn't even remember the last time I sincerely apologized to anyone.
Finally, I gathered the guts to quicken my pace until I was next to him and I looked to my left where he was staring intently at the ground.
"I'm the type of person who tends to think only after doing something. Like I am just super impulsive and always regret it in the end. And what I had done was really stupid and- "I rambled, "basically I just wanted to say sorry for riding your tractor."
I let out a huge breath, finally relieved to have gotten it out of my chest. However, I still cringed at how idiotic I sounded.
I clicked my knuckles, which is what I always did when nervous. Taehyung started chuckling, which only baffled me.
"It's about time you apologized. I can't believe it took you two days just to say sorry!"
He waved two fingers in front of my face, emphasizing what he had just said. I gawked at him with my mouth wide open, confused as to why he was acting so nonchalant to my apology. It annoyed me how much he underestimated me- the damned village ruined my image.
"It was good practice for you. You should try to apologize more often, make yourself a better person," he said, as he lifted up my chin to close my mouth.
I couldn't understand why I was still acting so calm as I continued to listen to him roast me. The normal me would have bitch slapped him before he could have even finished that sentence.
"So were you not upset for the last two days?" I asked.
"Well I was kind of. But I got over it and the rest was just my amazing acting skills," he said, flicking his imaginary long hair.
"That is so childish."
"I was only trying to help you because you wouldn't survive living with the people here with the attitude you came with."
My face grew red with anger as I looked away from him. All this time I had been feeling so guilty thinking that he was extremely upset, whilst he was simply playing games. He must have had no idea how stubborn I could be.
Does he really expect me to change through his stupid disciplinary actions?
"I forgive you Ara," he said in a mocking tone, before running off and childishly laughing.
I swore at him and ran after, but was soon stopped by a mushy feeling beneath my left foot. My stomach dropped as all the possibilities of what it could be ran through my mind; slowly I looked down, moving my foot.
No it can't be. No way! Please Lord, don't do this to me.
Taehyung stopped and turned around as soon as he heard me scream. My shoe had been printed on the biggest poop I had ever seen in my life. Too big for it to belong to a dog. The smell wafted up and attacked my nostrils, causing me to crinkle my nose.
"HOW COULD YOU NOT SEE THAT MASSIVE COW POO!?"
Taehyung started cackling; he shut his eyes and started clapping like a seal as he walked towards me. I was too busy being angry at him to even notice it in the first place.
"Noooo! These were my custom made, limited edition sports trainers!"
Lesson learnt. Never wear anything designer in the countryside. Unfortunately for me that was basically all of my clothes.
"Aww stop being such a baby and let's head back home."
He draped his arm around my shoulder, ignoring the death glare I was shooting at him.
"We have an interesting week coming our way and if we go to the village leaders house, you can learn all about it."
"Why, what's happening?"
Instead of answering my question, he winked and gave me a sly smile.
