One. Two. One. Two
Left. Right. Left Right.
Our grips around each other's waist never loosened as we took one step at a time, making sure not to lose our rhythm. I focused on our feet, drowning out all the cheers surrounding us.
We had already passed two couples who had been disqualified due to falling down. I could almost taste the victory and that only made me more determined to win. I had soon forgotten all my lack of interest I had for this event. Now I wanted to win.
Almost there.
From the corner of my eye, I could see the blue ribbon stretched across the finish line. And soon, we were head to head with Jungkook and his partner. Every time we moved forwards a little more, they would always manage to catch up and vice versa.
Just little more.
Sweat trickled down my temples; I didn't know whether it was due to me trying so hard or the bright sun beaming down from the clear sky.
"One last step!" whispered Taehyung.
I took a deep breath and at the same time we lifted our tied legs. We thrusted our leg and body forward, causing us to come in contact with the ribbon against our stomach.
We stood there for a solid second breathless, watching the ribbon as it dropped to the grass. Someone loosened our rope around our legs and we were soon attacked with hugs from our team. Realisation finally hit me.
"WE WON!" screamed Yosub, as he literally threw himself onto me.
What?
"We did it!"
I threw my arms up and screamed as I pulled Taehyung towards me. I felt him flinch a little in my embrace and a second later he also wrapped his arms around my waist. I was too busy being happy to even notice his awkwardness as I continued to scream over his shoulder.
But I quickly pulled away, embarrassed at my a little too excited reaction. I didn't want them to think that I actually cared about the event.
Take a deep breath and act cool.
I looked at Taehyung's flustered face, whether it was due to our skinship or him being tired, I didn't know. I flicked my ponytail over my shoulder and strutted back towards our canopy.
On my way, I saw the glare Jungkook was shooting at the back of Taehyung's head. When his eyes landed on me, I blew him a kiss which caught him off-guard. But he quickly went back to glaring as he marched towards our direction, causing me to chuckle.
Taehyung was too busy being attacked with kisses from the old women and claps to the back of his shoulder by Dongwook, to even notice Jungkook walking towards him.
"Speak of the devil, " I said, catching Taehyung's attention.
He followed my gaze and his face fell at the sight of Jungkook smirking at him.
"Have your victory while it lasts because I will take it back very soon."
"We'll see about that," huffed Taehyung, crossing his arms.
I left them to continue glaring at each other again because I was worn out from the race. Sports was just not my thing and never will be. I collapsed on the chair and lazily slid down in it.
"Wake me up when the day finishes," I said, closing my eyes.
"But the main race is next!" exclaimed Yosub, trying to open my eyelids.
I swatted his arm away and sat up, groaning like an old lady. Sometimes I felt like I was one but just trapped in a young woman's body.
"Tae hyung and Taeyeon noona are going to be in it."
Maybe that was what Jungkook and Taehyung were discussing about earlier. I had to see it happen because after seeing their rivalry, it was surely going to be an interesting event.
I could see the two siblings with a bunch of other young girls and guys stretching. All except for Taehyung and Jungkook, who were busy shoving each other around. They really looked like two little kids in a petty fight. Me and Yosub giggled at the pair as they continued elbowing each other.
First was the girl's 100m race, where Taeyeon managed to get second place. Only beaten by a few milliseconds by of course, Jungkook's team. To be honest even I was getting annoyed with how his team kept winning everything, well besides the race I took part in.
I smiled at the fond memory of my victory. But surprisingly our village weren't doing that bad either. Whilst Jungkook's team were getting the first places, we were always a runner up. This meant that we still had a chance of winning the competition, if Taehyung does well in the race.
The young men from each village made their way in an orderly fashion and stood behind the start line. They continued to stretch and jog to warm themselves up a little more.
This was the last and most anticipated race, naturally garnering the most attention. Half the filed was vacant now that everyone had gathered on either side of the race tracks.
Before getting up, I quickly scanned the crowd to find my team. Once I had spotted them, I made my way and stood next to Taeyeon. Thankfully both of us were quite tall so we managed to have a good view, despite being right at the back.
Taehyung and Jungkook were still side by side, but no longer shoving each other. Taehyung looked around, probably searching for us.
"Over here hyung!"
Yosub jumped up and down, flailing his arms about. He finally found us and smiled as the villagers screamed fighting at him. His smile grew wider as he also pumped his fist and mouthed the words.
I had never realised how weird his smile was. It wasn't unattractive or anything, just different.
Are you seriously having a debate with yourself over his smile?
Whilst I was having a mental conversation with my very interesting self, the guys had now crouched down into position. Two hands placed behind the white line and one knee kneeling on the grass.
The crowds were now echoing with shushes, soon the talking had been quietened down. Only low levels of whispering and heavy breathing could be heard.
The race starter lifted his pistol up in the air and everyone took a deep breath in as they stared with wide eyes. He started to countdown and not one eye blinked as we all waited for the pistol to be released.
BANG!
And they all simultaneously rose from the ground. The crowd roared with screams, everyone shouting different names as they pumped their fists in the air.
I stayed silent as I watched with wide eyes, not daring to blink. I balled my fists to hold myself back from joining in with the screams.
From what I could see, Taehyung and Jungkook were in sync, both leading the race. It was hard to tell who was going to win.
Gasps spread through the crowd as he passed the finish line, dragging the ribbon with him...
A/N Who won?!?! DUN DUN DUUUUN. This chapter was fun to write cause I kept laughing just imagining Tae and Kookie in this competition.
