Dean's Point of View
Dean stared out of the foggy window silently. Cas' heavy breathing echoed in the background, the inability that Castiel couldn't say anything was etched into Dean's skull.
He lost his voice earlier this morning, the only way Cas could tell Dean something was by making his shaky hand write it down. Dean looked down at the sheet of paper His Everything gave him, that said all of the things his voice couldn't say.
How are you?
You look nice this morning.
I'm fine.
Would you bring my book?
Megan brought me an bag of Cheetos.
How's Lisa?
I love you.
The treatment the doctor started was working nonetheless, except Cas slept more than usual, from all the drugs they hooked him through tubes and injections.
Dean stayed despite Cas not being able to say a word. He would stay when Cas was asleep, he would even stay if Castiel wanted him to go.
His phone buzzed, drawing him from his whirling thoughts.
"Hello?" Dean answered, a small voice quivered on the other line.
"I'm outside."
Lisa.
"Of my apartment? I'm not th-" Dean questioned, but Lisa interjected.
"No Dean. I know you wouldn't be at your apartment on your work-free day. I knew you would be with Castiel."
"So why don't you just come in? If you're outside?" Dean pressed. She took a few seconds to reply.
"I'm scared."
"Of?"
"Seeing how much he changed."
"You did say he was just a patient, that he was going to die eventually." Dean argued bitterly.
"I was angry at that point...I was jealous that you loved him more than me."
Dean took in a sharp breath, "You are coming in right?"
A light nervous chuckle escaped her mouth, "Is he awake?"
He glanced over, and saw Cas stir from his sleep.
Dean smiled and said,
"Yeah...he's awake."

Lisa stepped inside, brown eyes full of regret as she stared at Castiel.
"Since when did they put the mask?" Lisa asked sadly.
"A few weeks ago." Dean stated. "Don't wait for him to respond to anything-he can't speak."
