“Can I have pink pancakes Aunty Millie?”

“What do you say to Aunty Millie?” Evan spoke up, obviously joking but it was cute to see Doyle grin a big cheesy grin.

“Pewees.” Doyle flashed his pearly whites and grinned wide.

I flipped over a pink pancake with sprinkles and sat it down in front of him on his plate. We had Jane and Jake’s little kids for the weekend as Jane went into labour last night, three days after coming home and her water breaks, one month early. Apparently she was told not to fly, but didn’t listen to the doctor’s orders. Neither of their parents were in town so we were their next best option.

Flynn and Jed were still honeymooning, you would think after a week of being married they would come home with us, but no, they were off to Thailand doing what couples do while we all came home four days ago.

Evan and I had still kept the baby news under wraps, not wanting to tell anyone just yet.

My doctor’s app was meant to be tomorrow but I with the kids here I was cancelling it. I just had to tell Evan that part still.

Speaking of Evan, he was being so protective of me. I wasn’t to do anything that involved lifting or running. That included work and I knew this coming week with Flynn away was going to be busy as hell.

I yawned and stretched my arms above my head, glancing at the clock it wasn’t even 7am. These kids were early risers. “So, who wants to watch a movie?” Evan spoke, looking as tired as I felt.

“Nope, Uncle Ev, we wanna go swimming!” Lola pushed her plate away and smiled widely.

Evan looked at the tiny girl and shook his head, “Sorry but we can’t swim until your foods settled, watch a movie and then we’ll go swimming and Auntie Millie can show you how to swim.”

“Will I just?” I asked with a smirk putting the plates in the dishwasher.

Evan just winked and took both kids by the hands towards the TV room, hopefully they wouldn’t break anything. I had put all our breakables away but you never know, kids get into everything and well, I remember their toy room.

I walked past and down to my room, I needed to change and I still had a heap of crap to organise for work, plus all my parents things at their house needed to be sorted out. A trip to Melbourne was coming up soon. Another thing I had to talk to Evan about.

“Emilia Mason you better not be doing anything that involves lifting or stretching.” Evan’s loud voice followed behind me.

I spun around and stuck my tongue out at him. “Don’t worry daddy, I’m not doing anything.”

It wasn’t until the shocked face across Evan did I realise what I had said. “That feels weird to hear, I didn’t think I would ever be called that. But I like it.”

I walked towards him slowly. Looking up and smiling, “I like it too Evan.”

The other thing tugging in my stomach was Haven would have been one tomorrow, Flynn was gone and I was left alone to grieve or celebrate. I was anxious, I hadn’t said anything to Evan as I didn’t want to worry him.

“So, what do you think Jane had?” He asked me.

I shrugged, “Well, a baby duh!” I said a little dumbly at him.

He just laughed, “I knew I married you for a reason beautiful.”

I nodded, “Oh I know you married me for my looks, as I did for yours Evan.”

His arms wrapped around my waist and he pulled me towards the bed, sitting beside me as he placed a hand to my stomach, “I can’t believe we’re having a baby.”
