A/N: Here's what happens when you are doing reading for work purposes and then get distracted and write a fanfiction....
TAYLOR POV
I didn't know what to feel. They all said it wasn't my fault, but what if it was. What if I was the reason this had happened? I felt numb.
"Love, do you want a drink?" Adam asked, walking over from the kitchen counter to the sofa was I was sitting stoically staring at the wall where the TV was attached, the screen blank. "Love..."
He sat down next to me and wrapped his arm around me, pulling me towards him carefully. How can he love me? He gently ran his hand up and down my arm, trying to get me to relax a bit.
Little by little I let the walls that had built up over the last hour tumble down piece by piece. I let myself sink into his body and let out the breaths I hadn't realised I was holding.
"The doctor said it was a random occurrence. You didn't do anything wrong and couldn't have known." He tried to tell me again.
"But I failed Adam.... I'm not even a mother yet and I've already failed as a parent! If I can't even protect the baby before it's born, what will I be like as a mother when it's born?" I said, trying my best not to cry.
"YOU will be the most amazing mother. YOU will go to all the doctor's appointments. YOU will make sure our child always feels loved and safe in this crazy world we live in." Adam said, making me smile as little as he punctuated each sentence with a kiss on top of my head.
ADAM POV
To say I was worried about Taylor was an understatement. Initially we went in to find out whether we were having a girl or a boy, but the technician saw something that was out of the ordinary and called in the doctor. He then broke the news: our unborn baby has amniotic bands which had wrapped around its right leg, leading to the lower leg not forming properly. Our baby was likely to require some surgery, a prosthetic, and therapeutic interventions throughout its life.
As soon as the doctor confirmed it, Taylor had shut me out. We were told it was most likely a random occurrence, nothing we did would have caused it and there was nothing we could have done to prevent it. The only reason it hadn't been detected until now, in her 24th week was basically due to ultrasounds not being the clearest all the time, especially earlier on. We were some of the few who found out before the baby is born, sometimes it's never detected on an ultrasound and a surprise at birth. It was a shock to both of us and I agreed we would be back to discuss it more the next day and find out the gender then, letting Taylor digest the information over night. The whole journey home had been quiet and as soon as we arrived Taylor had sat on the sofa and not moved since.
When Taylor started to smile a little I knew I was getting through to her.
"It will be alright.... right?" She asked quietly
"Our little family will be as alright as can be. The little twists and turns in life make it worth living." I told her.

TAYLOR POV
"Do you think we need different clothes?" I asked Adam as we wandered around the baby store.
It took me about a week to fully digest the information the doctor gave us, but I was taking it in my stride. I had already been very panicked about bringing a child into our hectic life, where people followed us semi-constantly and we were travelling a lot, and finding out that our child would have more obstacles to overcome just added an element of anxiety. When we went back the next day, we found out lots of new information. First off, the baby was a little girl. Then we got to speak to the doctor alongside a paediatric physiotherapist and an occupational therapist who explained the idea of prosthetics and exercises. It didn't seem as scary to me anymore. We both left the doctors with smiles on our faces.
