Say what? (part 2 - the girls)

TAYLOR POV

I woke up to the most incessant nuzzling coming from near my head. I fumbled around, trying o find the source, finally finding my phone between my mattress and bedframe.

"'Ello?" I said sleepily.

"Get out of bed sleepyhead! We are outside your front door!" Selena called down the phone, with a few other people laughing in the background.

I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and put my glasses on, looking at my bedside clock and seeing it was nearly 10am. Since I was barely ever in LA with tour rehearsals in Nashville and Pennsylvania, and my friends were always everywhere but the same place, I had organised to have a girls' day today as we were all here for once...... And I was late getting up.

"Um, yeah... I'll be down in 2 minutes." I said, hanging up the phone and grabbing the first sweater that I could find before racing down the stairs.

I could let them in and then go and get dressed properly, right? And we were just hanging around my house, so it wasn't like I needed to dress up or anything.

"Finally!" Cara said, pushing right through the door when I opened it and running down the corridor to the bathroom, making us all laugh.

"Hi Tay!" Selena said, giving me a hug, followed by Karlie, Gigi, and Ellie as well.

"Nice sweater.... I feel like I've seen it somewhere." Ellie said, scrunching her eyebrows together as I looked down at my sweater.

I suddenly realised it was Adam's.... he must have left it here last night when he was over....

"Um, I think it's Austin's... maybe you've seen him wearing it?" I said, shrugging and trying to play it off.

"Yeah.... maybe." Ellie replied, letting it go as she followed the other girls into the living room.

"Um, I'm just going to get some actual clothes on... sorry.... Make yourselves at home." I said redundantly as they all sunk down on the sofas and unloaded bags of snacks, nail polishes, and games.

It only took me a couple of minutes to get changed and feed the cats before making my way back to the living room.

"Late night?" Karlie asked me, wrapping an arm around my shoulder as I nodded. "What were you up to?"

"Um.... You know, tour stuff." I said, looking down at my hands on my lap, "But I don't want to talk about that.... How are all of you? I haven't seen you guys in weeks!"

They all started talking about what they were up to at the moment, from magazine shoots to studio sessions to family events to romantic dilemmas.... We all settled in for a fun day, and I thought they wouldn't get to asking me anything much... but I was wrong.

"So did Adam text you?" Ellie asked, making them all look at me expectantly.

"Don't worry, we filled the others in on the BRIT party fun with mister Calvin Harris." Karlie said with a smirk.

"Yeah, how you somehow put the world biggest – in multiple ways- DJ in a complete trance from the get go." Cara said, having been at the Elle Awards, but not the BRITS the next day.

"So...." Selena said, nudging me.

"There's nothing to tell. We spoke, it was nice..." I said, with a little shrug, not daring to look them in the eye.

It wasn't that I didn't want to tell them all about it, I just wasn't exactly sure what 'it' was.... It had been about 10 days and we had only met up twice, although we were basically in constant communication. I felt comfortable, happy, but it was like our little secret at the moment.

"Swifty is hiding something...." Cara said, picking up Dibbles, "Dibs, tell us what mommy's secret is!"

Dibbles started meowing and leapt off Cara's lap, digging under the sofa until 2 scrabble pieces flew out.

"Why are there scrabble pieces under your sofa? The scrabble board is all the way in the dining room...." Ellie said, looking at me weirdly.

Last night Adam and I had played Scrabble on the sofa, and the board fell off when Meredith jumped down onto Adam's lap, obviously sending pieces flying around.

"Um..." I was trying to figure out an explanation considering the living room and dining room were not exactly near each other.

"Unless you were playing scrabble in here.... Recently.... Like last night...." Selena said, narrowing her eyes at me and then gasping as I blushed, "explaining why you weren't awake this morning!"

"Woah... who's the lucky guest?" Cara asked, as they all gathered closer to me.

I had two options, lie outright and probably get caught because they knew me way too well, or tell them the truth and have them probably give me a full blown ultra girly therapy session. I took a deep breath.

"Okay.... Here's the truth. Yes, I did have a FRIEND over last night and we played scrabble in here until Meredith crashed the game – quite literally- and then stayed up late talking." I said, keeping my eyes closed until I had finished.

I didn't hear any sounds so opened my eyes to find them all smiling broadly at me, their eyes wide, obviously waiting for more details.

"And?" Karlie said, prompting me to go on.

"And, yes, some of you know him......" I said, stopping what I was saying and smiling, biting my lip slightly as I looked at Ellie.

"You little so and so... You and Adam?" She said, pointing a finger at me and cheering when I nodded slowly, smiling at them all.

"We are just friends though, okay...we are just hanging out sometimes. I don't want a big deal made of this." I said, making sure they all heard me clearly.

"Yeah, yeah.... After today. For now, we get to grill you! It's only fair!" Selena said, as they all looked at one another as I rolled my eyes, then started firing questions at me.

I literally spend a good 30 minutes answering their - sometimes bizarre and inappropriate- questions, until I had had enough and diverted their attention to making food as we were all hungry.

As we were waiting for the cookies we made to finish baking, we started watching a movie. IT was a romantic comedy, ironically about two friends who didn't realise they were perfect for each other until it was too late.

Meredith hissed at me as I tried to lift her up, and I pouted, making the girls laugh as I had told them how much Meredith had grown fond of Adam the night before. I pulled out my phone while I thought they were distracted and sent Adam a message: "Hey Adam! Why does Meredith like you better than me? See you later! xx".

"Ooooh! Two kisses...." Karlie said, looking over my shoulder and making me blush.

"We're all happy for you Tay, you know that right?" Selena said quietly, snuggling into my side.

"Yeah.... I just want to take it day by day.... But I think I really do like him Sel...." I told her.

"Well we are all here for you no matter what." She said back, making me smile.

I knew that no matter what, I always had my friends by my side.
