Cassie's POV
I looked out the window and saw it was snowing.
It never snowed when I was little. Before I turned into a mermaid...
I couldn't even go outside now. Lovely.
Emily and I took the elevator downstairs. We were waiting for the girls. Neither Brittany nor Lou were back... bad weather conditions apparently.
The doors opened and a gust of wind brought the snow flying towards my face.
It melted as soon as it came intact with my skin.
Oh no.
I looked around frantically. I saw a bathroom and ran, the girls following.
As soon as I slammed the door to the fancy restroom shut, I fell to the ground.
"Ugh great"
They all stared at my tail.
"Take a picture it'll last longer- oh wait I take that back! Don't take a picture of my tail!"
They chuckled lightly as I steam-dried my tail.
I stood up and walked out.
"I think I'll be staying in our flat until this snow stops..."
We went upstairs and sat on the couch and started talking girl talk.
"Did you see what she was wearing at the CMT's?!" Lily exclaimed.
"I know! It was hideous!" I agreed.
Taylor was staring and squinting at my face.
"What are you looking at?" I asked her.
"Your face. There's something on it." She pointed.
I got up and ran to the bathroom.
I looked in the mirror. I brought my hand up to my face to see weird greenish rash like stuff on my face. It was near my jaw line.
It kinda itched. When I scratched it I noticed there was some on my arm. It was on my other arm, my neck, my upper back, and my shin.
What the...
I scratched all over my body.
"What is that?" Emily asked.
"I don't know" I said as I walked back into our living room, still scratching.
Now I was shivering like crazy. I was freezing.
"Lets just heat things up I here" I said to no one in particular.
I then used my heat-fire power to cool the room down.
"Oh my god, Cass, it is so hot!" Lily said.
They were all starting to sweat, but I was glad it was so warm.
"Sorry but I was freezing!" I defended myself.
"How can you stand this?" Emily asked.
"My summers were a lot hotter than this. 95 was the average but it got higher than that many many times. One week it was up to 116 degrees" I stated
matter-a-factedly.
Their eyes looked like they might fall out if their sockets.
"This is nothing; right now I would love to make it
warmer-"
"No!" They all yelled in unison.
"But because of you guys, I'm not." I finished.
"Back to Kelly Clarkson's dress" lily said and we all engaged in another fashion related conversation.
***
"Bye" I held the door open for Taylor and Lily since they had to leave. I then looked down at myself. My arms looked like I had green spots.
I decided that only Brittany knew about what this could be, because she has the book her mother left her. I grabbed my phone and slipped on a sweater as I dialed Brittany's number.
It rang 4 times before she picked up.
"Hullo..." A low and grumpy voice groaned into the phone.
"Brittany! It's urgent! I got snow on myself and I transformed and now I have this greenish brownish yellowish barf looking crap all over myself and now it's itchy and I'm freezing to death and its spreading quickly and-"
"CALM YOUR GOD DAMN TITS CASCADA!!!" Brittany sternly shouted into the phone. I inhaled deeply and exhaled loudly.
"Ok."
"So, after the snow incident you got this 'rash?'" She questioned.
"Yes. It's a green pukish color and its all over my body."
I could almost see Brittany furrowing her eyebrows as she thought about what was in the book. She always used to do that.
"Snow rash!" She concluded.
"What??" I raised my hand and heated up the place. It was very cold.
"Snow rash. In Cali, it never snows. Your body is adjusting to it." She finished.
"But snow and rain are practically the same thing!" I yelled.
"I don't know. Mermaid logic." I smiled. I loved calling myself a mermaid.
"When does it go away? What are the side effects? Is there a cure?" I frantically waved my arm around. It was really cold. Why isn't it warming up??
"It lasts about 3-5 days. The side effects are, spots on your skin, feeling climate changes, your eyes may turn pink, and your powers may be drained for a couple days. There is a medicine you can make to stop the spots, and it may go away a day earlier." She spoke.
"NO POWERS? WHERE'S THE FUN IN THAT? STUPID SNOW." I pouted.
"Don't worry. Here's the recipe." She spoke. I heard her flipping the pages of her book.
"I'll text you the recipe. It's a bit long, so it may take a while."
"Thank you so much Britt. I love you!" I yelled. On the other line, I heard quiet sobs. I realized what I just said can hurt her like that.
I love you.
We say it playfully. I don't think anybody other than Louis, Grace, her mother or her father have ever said it seriously.
I don't think any of them CAN say it again.
"Britt I'm sorry-" then I realized she hung up.
I sighed and plugged the charger into my phone. I scratched the rash and my phone went off briefly. I got a text from Britt with the ingredients on it. I raised an eyebrow at some, but hey, it's a magic thing!
Magic...
I LOVE BEING ABLE TO SAY ITS REAL!
________
My eyes widened at the glass in front of me. It had weird swirly things in it. Ick. I had to drink that.
It contained weird things, plus a bit of magic-which was all I had left. It had frozen salt water (hand made- may I add), 6 broiled clownfish (from the pet shop, poor little things), dried and diced seaweed, clam SHELLS, all the scales from 1 flounder, and raw salmon. Gross, I know. But I want this rash GONE.
A ringing startled me, but I stood up with my drink and headed towards the door. I opened it to be greeted by my favorite ginger.
"Ed!" I gave him a one arm hug.
"Cass. I was on my way to Starbucks when I passed. Wanna join?" He asked.
"Sorry, I can't. I got a delicious drink right here!" I held up the drink. His smile faded, swapped for a look of disgust.
"That. Is. Terrible." He frowned. I nodded.
"I know. It's medicine." I squinted my eyes shut.
"I'm guessing for that green facial hair you've got there..." He gestured to my face. It spread to a beard??
I nodded again. Ed doesn't know... The secret yet. We probably WILL tell him, when the time is right.
"Well, I gotta go. This may be my only chance to go cause I've got rehearsals tomorrow." I smiled and gave him a hug.
"Bye Ed!" I waved. He waved back and put his sunglasses on and his hoodie up.
I closed the door and sat back down. You can do this Cassie. You can do this. Drink it. If not you caused a salmon, flounder, and six clownfish their lives. Well at least Emily was nice enough to go out and buy this stuff for me.
Ok. No sidetracking. No matter how much you want an excuse not to drink this...
OH LOOK OUR HOUSE HAS A FRIDGE!
Stop it Cassie!
THE FRIDGE IS SILVER!
Not the time!
WITH A WATER AND ICE DISPENSER AND EVERYTHING!
Cassie!
WELL WOULD YA LOOK AT THAT! IT'S FROM THE BRAND LG!
CASSIE!
Ugg. I held up the glass and plugged my nose. Here goes nothing. I dumped the drink down my throat and unplugged my nose. Bad idea.
The aftertaste was HORRIBLE. I ran to the sink and squirted water in my mouth, some dripping down my shirt.
Aw nuts.
I sat down waiting for a tail. My eyes stayed squinted shut as I kept my legs together. After waiting 30 seconds, I noticed no tail. Hm. Must be the side effect.
Darn.
I stood up and chugged the milk in he fridge. Yes, the silver LG fridge. The disgusting taste left my mouth after half a gallon of milk.
The doorbell rang again. I dragged my feet across the floor to the door. When I opened it, I saw my amazing boyfriend smiling. His smile never faded. Huh. I looked down at my arms to see the rash gone. It must be off my face too.
Harry leaned in to kiss me and I put my had over his lips.
"Sorry curly. My breath probably stinks right now." I smiled.
"I don't care." I leaned in again. I shrugged. See, Harry didn't flinch or anything.
I love this guy.
