Great Gatsby inspired poem, my english teacher loved it and wants it published, hehe. What do you think?

(Gatsby)

If absence makes the heart grow fond,
You must be my American dream.
I've been staring at this green light,
In hopes that beyond it lies you and me.

The American dream remains in the stars.
My dream of you, forever unreached.
Starcrossed Lovers, that's what we are.
Five years couldn't kill my dream.

A successful man is what you asked for.
Intelligent and rich, with a purpose in life.
It took five years, now I'm at your door.
Did you think I'd be alive?

Your husband still stands in the way.
Leave him Daisy, it'll be alright.
I'll mend your heart, we'll be okay.
You can run with me tonight.

But with that fatal, fateful crash,
Everything seemed to fall apart.
Tragedy and grief made George act rash,
Shot me right in the heart.

You were the American dream,
My fate beyond the light.
I was an illusion of a man,
Living a dishonest life.

I never wanted you to run away.
Daisy, you deserve better than this.
You let him cause you pain,
Let him get away with it.

(Daisy)

Gatsby, I loved you once.
But it's been five years.
You aren't the man I need to love.
I can't leave all that I have here.

Tom's a cheat, but he's who I love.
You were only a dream.
Dreams die with the rise of the sun.
But a dreamer's all I'll ever be.

Gatsby, I never asked for this much.
Money, fame, glory and shame.
Whoever thought you'd die for love,
Making the "Great Gatsby" a true name?

The green light's faded,
It was too far away in the first place.
You've left me torn, jaded.
Your memory's all that remains.
