It's not until
Monday
at school
that everything seems to
crash back down
on me
again.Over the remainder
of the weekend,
my mother seemed to
recover herself
enough that she
was able to go to work today.
She had left the house
before I had even made it
out to the kitchen
for breakfast.
I think she needed
some time alone
this morning -
and I respect that,
but it makes my morning
that much more
lonely
without her.Things had progressed
rather poorly
once I'd arrived at school.
For the past couple weeks,
the name-callers from
my first few weeks here
had seemed to lose interest
in their tasteless ridicule,
something I was
completely fine with.
Today, though,
they'd decided to make
a comeback -
and like with most comebacks,
it was a complete bust. And by a bust, I mean
horribly idiotic.As they began their
annoyingly familiar routine
of trying to elicit
some kind of response from me
with their trite,
thoughtless insults,
my mood quickly
started to
sink,
and the loneliness
continued to
rise -
because in that kind of situation,
I can only wonder
how horrible
of a person
I must appear as to
these boys
that they feel the need
to insult me
every chance they have.No wonder you
have no friends,
as they say.
You're too much of a
queer freak
for anyone to like you. That night with Matty
seems so far away
now.
Maybe they're right -
maybe I am
less than human.
Their hatred
only proves that
all the more,
right?Some part of me
doesn't want that
to be true,
but another side tells me
that even so,
I really have no
choice in the matter
any more.×
