Matty comes over again
early the next morning.
So does Stacey.
Together, Matty and I
sit in my room and
listen in on the two adults
talking animatedly
to the tune of the
Saturday morning news.
"She seems nice,"
is Matty's opinion
when I tell her of
yesterday's catastrophe.
"Misinformed, maybe,
but nice enough."
"That seems
a little generous,"
I sigh,
flopping back on
my bed.
It gives an
audible groan
as I land.
"She gives me
the creeps.
You should see the way
she looks at
my mother.
It surpasses just
general admiration."
"And what's wrong
with that?"
Matty counters.
"People fall in love
all the time."
"People fall in love
with the wrong person
all the time,
you mean."
Now it's her turn
to sigh at me -
though I can tell by
the look in her eyes
that she agrees with me.
"My mother is
the straightest and -
in case you
haven't noticed -
most oblivious person
I've ever met.
I may not like Stacey
extremely much,
but I don't want
my mother to
accidentally hurt her
by being oblivious
to her feelings."
We pause then
as a chorus of
riotous laughter
filters up from
the downstairs.
It's like my
worst fears
are already being confirmed.
"I see your point,"
Matty concedes at last,
"but you never know.
People can change,
and they can
surprise you
more often than
you would think,
too."
"Do you want her
to date Stacey?"
I ask.
"Do you actually think
that Stacey would
be good for her?"
Matty only shrugs.
"I just want her
to be happy -
and if Stacey
makes her happy...
Well,
don't you want
the same thing?"
"Of course,"
I say -
but somehow,
if it involves that
nutjob,
I don't think I can
agree to it.
After all, it's
hard enough
taking care of one
irresponsible mother.
Two of them
might end up
killing me
in the end.

Aw, it's cute when Cam worries about Flory. Because you know, Flory just bumbles around like the lovable dork she is. You can't blame her for it. Maybe Stacey will in the end, though.
Speaking of, what do you guys think is going on with them? Is Cam's assumption that Flory is just oblivious to whatever Stacey may feel right? I'd like to know what you guys think c:
