I have five exams total:
three today, and
two tomorrow.
After that is
Christmas Eve,
and then Christmas -
freedom from
the monotony of
school days and
the insanity of these tests.
It can't come
soon enough.Chemistry is first,
which is a minor blessing
since it's by far
my best subject.
The entire classroom
is dead silent
as I enter,
as though a funeral progression
had just passed through
before me.
Perhaps it had.
This isn't supposed to be
a very easy test,
and I know for certain
that many people
in this class
have trouble with the subject. The teacher had once
asked me to tutor
some of my fellow classmates
near the start
of the year,
but considering that
at the time,
I was still dealing with
all the whispers
that typically come with
my gender,
I had told her no
on account of my
newness to the school -
and we had
left it at that.Even despite
the initial fear
and drama of
the class' conjoined dread,
the test ends up
passing more smoothly than
I would have expected.
I know the material,
as I usually do,
but the memory of
Matty's complaints,
together with my
horrible imagination
that somehow manages
to conjure an image
of her swinging
a sledgehammer
at the test
eases my nerves some.Next, though,
is history.
It's with some dread
that my heavy steps
carry me to the
appropriate classroom.
I barely arrive
in time -
and when I do,
the teacher sends me
a death glare,
which doesn't exactly
give me a good feeling
about this exam.And sure enough,
it's all dates
and things that I
struggled to memorize
in the weeks
beforehand.
Despite Matty's
earlier help,
I can feel myself
sinking down
into the familiar panic
and stress
that normally accompanies
test-taking
for me.After that is
our lunch break.
As she enters
the cafeteria,
Matty takes
one look at me
before frowning
and hurrying to the table
at which I'm sitting."How did it go?"
she asks cautiously.
I only
shake my head at her -
but like with
so many other things,
she seems to understand.
"It'll get
better from here,"
she says.
"I promise.
History is done with.
You only have
your math classes now,
and English.
That's not so bad,
right?""It still doesn't
change the fact that I
probably bombed
the history exam,"
I grumble -
and she subsides
with a worried frown,
saying nothing more
on the topic.After lunch,
I have an exam
in algebra,
which turns out to be
much less stressful
than its precursor.
The only real issue
is the kid next to me,
who proceeds to
cough and sneeze
every other second,
jarring me
out of focus
every time.
I barely finish
before the bell rings
to dismiss us from
the classroom.As I have
no exam for
the fourth block,
I'm free to leave school
for the day.
Matty, however,
does have an exam
this period.
I'm prepared to
wait the two hours
for her to be dismissed,
but she texts
and tells me to
go on ahead.
'I have something
already planned
for tonight, anyway,'
she says.
'I'll see you
tomorrow, though,
I promise.'You could say that
I'm a bit irritated
and probably
quite upset
as I walk home.
Luckily,
it doesn't start
to rain
this time -
but as it has
on and off
almost all day,
snow begins to
flutter down
from the darkening skies
above.
It sets a
rather peaceful tone,
but doesn't do much
to dispel my mood.And,
of course,
neither does
what I find
once I arrive home.×
Lol have a shitty cliffhanger, I don't even care. I have so much revising to do for this story once it's finished, so what's a little more, right? x3x
But really, the next chapter is huGE, oml. I'm so excited. Are you guys excited? You should be. It's gonna set up events that will occur in Undeniable, as well as change like... A lot. I dunno. How do you describe these things? I'm too tired for this shit.
Anyway, if you guys liked this chapter, I would love if you would vote and leave me some feedback! It'd be very much appreciated c:
