A/N: Forgot to mention that this takes place in the CGI series universe! But you can also imagine it in the 80s cartoon! Just putting out what I, the author, imagine when I write this story!

At the grass patch area, two best friends sat together, the girl asking the boy for help on her mathematics homework.

"Oh, I've spotted your careless mistake. Here, you forgot to switch the positive sign to negative." Simon pointed out in Jeanette's homework.

"But I still would get a different answer when I punch in the numbers on my calculator." Jeanette showed him the unlikely answer flashing the screen of her calculator.

"Let me see that." Simon suggested, taking it away from her hands gently.

He reread the question and examined her calculator.

"Oh, Jeanette." He shook his head, chuckling.

"The numbers in the question are in radians. You didn't change your calculator from degree to radian mode." He explained, showing her her calculator.

"Oh geez, that's right." Jeanette scolded herself, changing her calculations.

"If I keep making these silly mistakes, I'm sure to fail my exams." She cursed herself, finally writing down the correct answer.

"Oh, now now Jeanette, it's normal to make these silly mistakes. No need to be angry with yourself over a small matter." Simon chuckled, attempting to cheer her up.

"It would be a big matter when I fail." Jeanette looked at him miserably.

"I make careless mistakes too, Jeanette. It really is not a big deal." Simon tried once again.

"That's funny, coming from the straight A student." Jeanette remarked sarcastically.

"Hey, you're very smart Jeanette. It's just that you're careless. Here's what you can do during exams. Go over your calculations, or even redo the question if you have time. I do that, and I always manage to spot my mistakes and change them in time." Simon advised her.

"And being an A and B student isn't so bad. Look at Alvin, he can barely pass three subjects." Simon attempted to cheer her up.

"I guess you're right." Jeanette agreed with a chuckle.

"I know I am." Simon replied confidently.

"Thanks for helping me Simon." Jeanette thanked Simon as she packed her bag.

"No problem Jeanette." Simon smiled at her.

"Oh," Jeanette sighed as she dropped her books by accident, "I'm such a klutz."

"Let me help you." Simon kindly offered, bending down to take her books.

"Ooh!" They both yelped as they bumped their heads together.

"Sorry." Jeanette chuckled, rubbing her forehead.

"No, no, I'm sorry." Simon laughed along with her, handing her one of her books.

Simon found it adorable that she was clumsy, and it gave him an excuse to hold her. He'd gladly let her get into an bumpy accident with him, or help her up whenever she fell, or simply be the arms she fell into.

She was almost like his own brother Theodore. Like Theodore, Jeanette was naive and adorable, very sweet and shy. Simon cared for her just like how he cared for Theodore, but at times, he felt a little more attraction towards her than being a friend.

He also loved how she was at times different from others. Girls like Brittany love to wear sparkly fashion, others like Eleanor love to play sports, but Jeanette likes to simply gaze at butterflies and look amazed at everything around her.

"Thanks." Jeanette took back her textbook, clutching it to her chest.

"Bell's about to ring soon, we got to get to class." Simon gestured to go forward, and they walked side by side.

"So, Simon, have you started on your report?" Jeanette asked for conversation's sake.

"My report? Oh, yeah I've started. But I haven't quite finished it." Simon answered her.

"And you?" He turned to her questioningly.

"I've finished mine, but I'm not looking forward to presenting it in class next month." Jeanette sighed.

"Well, at least you've done yours. Who's in your topic?" Simon asked.

"J.K. Rowling. What an irony when she used to be shy, huh?" Jeanette joked.

"Jeanette, you know, I could teach you how to speak to a big crowd." Simon offered.

"You know how?" Jeanette asked, slightly astonished.

"Well, I'm certainly not popular like Alvin, but I improvise when no one listens." Simon chuckled nervously, embarrassed at the fact that he knew no one ever paid attention to his presentations in classes.

"Alvin can talk to a big crowd so easily." Jeanette sighed.

"How do people like him do these things?" She asked Simon.

"Alvin isn't quite the guy for public speaking. He talks nonsensically." Simon brushed the topic off.

"Yeah, I guess so. Even at least Brittany can talk sense to teachers." Jeanette agreed on Alvin's nonsense.

"We have Chemistry now, don't we?" Simon clarified with her.

"Yeah." Jeanette nodded her head.

After school ended, the six chipmunks met up to walk home together as Dave was busy at work. Eleanor was enthusiastically telling Theodore about the many goals she scored during a game in Physical Education, Alvin and Brittany were debating on preferences of style, but Simon and Jeanette were merely walking in silence.

They walked behind the group side by side, their shyness around each other conquering their bodies. They both wanted to talk, but had no idea what to talk about. They stole sideway glances at each other, and turned away when they made eye contact before smiling dearly at each other bravely.

"So Jeanette, I was wondering if-" Simon began.

"Back me up Simon!" Alvin interrupted Simon.

"What is it Alvin?" Simon grumbled at his irritating brother.

"She doesn't understand the meaning of swagger, swagger isn't pink leather jackets! They're disgusting! My cap is swag!" Alvin challenged Brittany.

"Leather jackets are cool to begin with." Brittany scoffed.

"Not when they're pink, they are." Alvin attempted to piss her off.

"Leave them be." Jeanette chuckled lightly.

"Yeah, so, where was I? Oh yeah, can we go to the library together tomorrow? The public library I mean. I was there the other day to return some books and there was this book that I saw and think you might like." Simon proposed.

"Sure, we could also do our homework there." Jeanette agreed.

"R-really? Well... Excellent." Simon grinned at her.

They both shared a loving look, and shyly looked away. Little did they know how similar their thoughts were.

I can't believe he wants to hang out again, Jeanette thought excitedly to herself.

The fact that she said yes to this is so exciting! Simon smiled to himself as he thought that.

A/N: How's the first chapter? I'd like some comments and votes x)
But I won't force you of course if you really find it boring, it's like giving a student an A on a test when you feel like all the science answers are really concepts wrongly applied.
