"Alright class, listen up. I have a few announcements to make." Miss Smith announced.
"First, the school event. In a teachers' meeting, we all have come up with an event for the end of the semester. The school will be hosting a school dance." She announced.
The moment she announced that, the class broke into groans as well as cheers. Girls broke into gossips, while boys looked around uncomfortably. Jeanette remained silent, unfazed by the announcement. It was likely to her that no one would ask her, since everyone thought she was weird. Perhaps Simon would ask her, and they would go as friends. The thought made her smile, but she was not going to raise her hopes.
Alvin and Simon turned to look at each other. Upon realising that they were both possibly targeting the same girl from their eye contact, they both looked away quickly, not wanting to pursue any conflict. Simon thought hard to himself. This was his chance to come out and pour his secret to Jeanette, before anyone else could steal her heart officially.
Oh, the thought of someone else being with her. He especially did not want Alvin to take that place. If it were anyone else, it had to be someone responsible and mature enough to take care of her. To Simon, he was the only one who fit that criteria.
"Yes, and, students of course have to partner up. It isn't compulsory to attend the event, but we teachers encourage you to come." The teacher added with a bored tone.
"And now, your Physics test. Our top scorer is, as usual, Simon, with full marks. Following behind by a mark, is Jeanette." She announced, before distributing the test papers.
Brittany looked at Alvin, and sighed to herself. She knew deep down that she would want to go with Alvin, but the questionable problem was, would Alvin ask her?
He obviously wouldn't, Brittany thought to herself.
They fought a lot, and a night such as the school dance was a very important night. So why would Alvin want to go with a problematic girl such as her? The only thing they'd do is fight again, and he could possibly ruin her night anyway, being the jerk she knew he was.
After that last class of the day, many boys began to bombard Brittany, asking her to the dance. Alvin watched from far, having considered asking her. He rolled his eyes, knowing she would definitely say no to him or make him do whatever she wants in exchange. He walked past the group, causing Brittany to feel downhearted as she watched him walk away without bothering to ask her.
Jeanette watched her sister being asked by so many boys, while she herself had no one asking her immediately. After all, Brittany did not wear dorky glasses like she did. And Brittany had a better sense of fashion than her. It was expected.
Jeanette headed to her locker to place her last period books when she caught her usual letter stuck between her Biology and Geography book. Was Ammon going to ask her? She eagerly opened the letter.
Hey Jeanette,
I saw you and Brittany in class today, and, you haven't been showing up for your other lessons. I hope you're okay now. I thought a little letter might cheer you up. Please don't be affected by Brittany's words, because you are more than what people think of you, and there are friends who still truly like you for who you are, such as Simon.
