The next day, Jeanette walked down the halls. She looked over at her locker, and she saw Alvin.
Alvin stood at her locker, picking at her lock. Just what was Alvin doing? Alvin opened the locker, but his actions were blocking Jeanette's view from knowing what he was really doing. All of a sudden, she caught a glimpse of a thin envelope drop onto the ground.
"Alvin?" She called, running to her locker.
"Jeanette!" Alvin exclaimed in surprise.
"What are you doing?" Jeanette asked.
"Nothing, nothing. It's not what it looks like, I promise. Sorry to invade your privacy." He picked up the envelope and threw it into the locker.
"See you around!" Alvin waved, running off.
Jeanette threw a puzzled look and took the very same envelope from the locker. It was, again, another envelope for her.
"Boy that was close..." Alvin sighed when he ran far enough away from her.
Jeanette knew her birthday was the next day, and she hoped it was a birthday card from the mysterious Ammon. To her delight, her assumption was true. Not only was it an envelope, but a tiny plastic rose was attached to it. But what was it doing with Alvin?
Did Alvin put it there, or was it already in her locker but it dropped out? She decided to assume the latter.
Hey Jeanette,
Your birthday is tomorrow on a weekend, but you'd obviously check your locker on a Friday. So, happy birthday in advance. I bet your siblings and friends have something special planned out for you. I have, but I'll only give it to you when I reveal myself. I bet I'd only have the courage to do so if I was totally sure you'd like me back. After all, you're a beautiful princess in my eyes, whereas I'm just a regular guy.
Jeanette's heart melted at his sweet words describing her before reading on.
Perhaps this rose and my words of encouragement would be able to brighten your day today as well as your birthday. I really wish I could tell you who I am, but we're such different people. You're as beautiful as this white rose, which symbolises purity. You have such an angelic nature and you see beauty in everything. That enables me to see the beauty in you.
Jeanette sighed dreamily, and Simon happened to walk by.
"Another letter?" He assumed indifferently.
"Yeah." Jeanette sighed once more.
"I'm still reading it, and I think this person's just wonderful." She giggled, in an unknowing attempt to make Simon jealous.
"That's great." Simon smiled at her.
"But, I still think you shouldn't be looking for this guy." He advised her gently.
"Why not?" Jeanette asked.
"Jeanette, who knows? This might be a prank to record your reactions, or maybe it was meant for someone with the same name as you from a different grade, or something. There are many different possibilities." Simon explained.
"Or it could also be because this person likes me? Like, duh?" Jeanette suggested.
"I'm the only Jeanette in this school, Simon. The closest person to my name is Jenny." She reasoned.
