"Um, Alvin? Why don't I do that? I'm taller." Simon suggested to pin up the banner.

"Simon, I've got this. Back off." Alvin instructed.

Simon's blood boiled at Alvin's rude behaviour, and grumbled as he stepped back. He was done with his gift, and he really wanted to help with the decorations but there was nothing to help with.

"Okay, is everything ready? Remember, we have to pretend she has magical powers for one day." Brittany reminded Alvin.

"Oh boy," Alvin thought aloud, "I sure hope this isn't like the time I sprinkled cayenne pepper on her and told her it was magic flying fairy dust."

"She believed it?" Eleanor asked in surprise.

"How gullible!" Theodore remarked, causing everyone to slowly stare at him in irony.

"How could you pull such a trick on her Alvin? Poor Jeanette." Simon scoffed, reverting back to Alvin.

"I swear, I didn't think she'd go that far to jump out the window. Let's just be thankful she didn't die, shall we?" Alvin rolled his eyes at Simon.

"It's true, she used to be gullible, but she's older, and wiser now." Brittany assured them all.

"Trust me, she'll know we're all pretending." Brittany added.

"So, is the house ready?" Eleanor questioned, turning to Simon.

"Yep, I've ringed the house with holograms and invisible wiring." Simon assured.

I just can't wait to see the smile on her face when she performs magic with my secret assistance, Simon thought to himself.

"And I picked out the perfect stick wand." Theodore proudly showed a box with a stick in it.

"Well, my present might be a little late," Alvin grinned sheepishly, "but it's awesome."

I don't think he even got her a present, Simon thought to himself.

"Sh, here she comes!" Eleanor whispered harshly.

Simon felt his heart beat in excitement. It was almost time for him to conduct magic, with science, to make Jeanette's birthday wishes come true. She did have a rough start by not being able to meet her mystery boy, but he was going to brighten it up in a few moments.

"Surprise!" They all emerged from behind the table, surprising Jeanette.

A slightly startled Jeanette reverted to her calm state of mind, and registered the fact that they decided to celebrate her birthday even after she begged them all to forget about it.

"Oh, thanks guys..." She began, but was cut off instantly by Theodore.

"Here! Open this!" Theodore handed her the box.

"Oh... A stick." She grinned sheepishly when she opened it.

"It's a maaaagic waaaand." Theodore tried to convince her.
