KAT'S POV
Pretty soon after I found out about how Shane's step-dad is helping Nate and this whole mess is being brought to the light I've felt sick. Not the sick that necessarily makes you want to throw up but the one where you see something that makes your whole body feel disgusting and anxiously sick. It's been all I can think about and it just makes it even worse on my body when I think about it.
"I know you don't want to talk about this but I'm going to need to hear the story from you personally, I'm sorry." Chase's voice slices through my thoughts, causing me to look up quickly. I scrunch my eyebrows with anxiety looking between him and Shane. Quickly Shane grips my hand supportively squeezing it. I smile sadly at him before turning back to Chase.
He's got a friendly demeanor and is a very relaxing person to be around. Him and Shane both have the same mischievous smiles and stormy eyes. Shane definitely looks a lot like his father.
"Okay." I simply reply, feeling everyone's eyes on me. I make no attempt to tell the story looking around the room. Jennifer and Alex are watching me from the side of the room with somber looks. I give Jennifer a look feeling the need for a female presence, feeling suffocated by questions. She quietly makes her way to the seat beside me placing her cool hand against my back comfortingly, indicating for me to talk. After a long pause I then proceed to tell him the entire story starting with how Nate and I got together to the last dreadful night. By the end of the story I felt a strange wetness on my cheeks. I lift my available hand up to my face lightly dabbing it with my finger. I had been crying and I didn't even realize it. Shane turns quickly pressing his thumb against my cheek and wiping the tears away with a worried looked etched on his face. "Thank you, I know that was difficult." He smiles trying to keep comforting me. He then turns to Shane looking down at his small little pad of notes he's taken through out this little 'meeting'. "Here's where it gets a little tricky, unfortunately the situation is ruled as here say. It's your word against his." He explains. "But Shane, you recently admitted that you saw what happened or some of it right?" He asks Shane. He nods to his father. "You're going to have to testify and be put up on the witness stand. Because you might be the only one who did see, a lot of this will fall to you. From what I can tell your testimony will be the determining factor in if Nate goes to jail or not." He concludes dropping a big weight on Shane's shoulders. He looks at Shane wishing his son didn't have to have some much responsibility pushed on him. I look over at Shane to see a look of determination present in his features. He simply nods taking in all of the information.
I fell horrible for pulling them all into my mess, especially Shane. Now he's has to go through all of this. We are supposed to be having the time of our lives. We should be partying and worrying about colleges not court dates. Everything is going wrong. No one was supposed to know and I was going to move on and find a way to forget.
Things don't always turn out the way you plan I guess. I feel Shane's heavy eyes land on me, watching me closely. "We'll be right back, let's take a break." He announces before pulling me up the stairs and into his room in a frenzied manner. Shutting the door behind himself he turns to look at me speaking volumes with his eyes. I take a hesitant seat on his bed, holding my head in my hands. All day I've been trying to keep my emotions at bay but now in a quiet, empty place the dam breaks and tears come flowing out of my eyes rapidly. I hiccup pulling my hair back with anger.
Almost seconds later I feel Shane kneel down in front of me, placing his hands on my legs comfortingly. I look up from my soaked hands to see him staring at me. He's practically between my knees, placing his hands up to my face. He wipes my tears, pulling my hands to his, interlocking them together. "I'm-sor- sorry!" I choke out, looking at him sadly. He shakes his head rapidly, seeming angry. "You don't ever apologize for this, none of this is your fault." He says firmly although looking at me with all the sweetness in the world. "I dragged you into it and now everyone knows and-" I trail off, shaking. Brushing my hair back lightly Shane grips my face between his hands, our faces merely inches apart. He nudges his nose against mine, looking into my red, blotchy eyes. He barely brushes his lips against mine, wrapping his arms around my waist tightly, pulling my legs around his. Then without warning he smashes his lips against mine with pressure before turning into a sweet kiss that feels safe and comforting. Moving his face away from mine he keeps his hand weaved into my hair, holding me close to him. "Kitty." He whispers making me look up, meeting his infectious gaze. "You didn't drag me into anything. I chose you, and everything that comes with it. You'll be okay, and even if you aren't you'll get through because you are that strong." He says into my ear, his voice barely above a whisper. I take solace in his voice, the deepness surrounding me in a safe cocoon of calming warmth. I drop my head on his shoulder feeling drained. I give him a grateful embrace holding on as tightly as possible. He returns the hug with the same amount of need. "Thank you."::::::::::::::::::
"Kat, come down stairs for a minute!" My dad shouts from the living room. Ever since he found out he's been acting extra sweet and affectionate. At the same he can't seem to look me straight in the eye and he always has this look of pity and despair. It's extremely infuriating how everyone is acting and treating me differently I just wish everything went back to normal.
"What's up dad?" I run down the stairs to find him standing at the front door next to a certain stormy eyed fellow with a single vibrant lilac flower in his hand. My dad has got the brightest smile on always being fond of Shane even when he was much more of an asshole.
"Hey, Shane?" I saunter over to where they're both stood with slight confusion. My dad stands back into the kitchen clearly still eavesdropping without caring to hide himself better.
"Hey." He pecks my lips smiling softly. He looks down at the flower playing with it between his fingers, a mischievous grin on his face reaching his eyes. "I know we don't do cliche but I got you this." He hands me the flower. I smile at the gesture and its accompanied comment. I look up at him unable to stop myself from grinning. I begin to speak but he does it first. "Since we're on the theme of cliche I'd also like to know if you'd go on a date with me." He says with a rare nervousness in his stature. My smile widens. I raise my eyebrows seeing a strange side to this complex guy standing before me. "Well you should know I'm seeing someone. I'm not sure how he'd feel about this." I tease. His grin turns into a smirk quickly catching on to my little game. "I don't think he'll mind, in fact this was all his idea." He stays in character, keeping his eyes glued to mine. "Well in that case I'd love to." I soften my gaze at him, smiling. "Good, because you deserve to have some fun." He pulls at my waist pressing his lips against mine quickly.
"Hey! I don't care how charming you are kid, no kissing!" My dad jumps out from his hideout in the kitchen pointing his finger at us accusatively.
He keeps a stern face trying to hide a smile. I laugh hiding my face in Shane's chest, embarrassed. I feel grateful at their attempts at some normalcy. At least we can try to be happy and safe.
Shane lifts his face from mine looking over at my dad. He pulls his arm out and gives him a thumbs up with a mock salute. "Yes sir." He smirks, his sarcasm evident in his voice. "Don't be a smartass, I don't like you that much." He doesn't even bother hiding his smile this time. Shane just smirks knowing how much my dad really adores him. "See you later sir." He waves, laughing, pulling me out the door. "Watch out for her..." Is that last thing I hear my dad say before I'm completely outside. I barely hear Shane's response with him whispering under his breath. "Always."//////////////////////////////////////////////
