Chapter 7: Cheater Cheater!

KAT'S POV

I wake up the next morning pretty groggy. I try to sit up but something is restricting. Panicking, I try to fully wake up to see what is on top of me.

I try to open my eyes better to see Shane's arm around my torso with his face against my shoulder. He has a handful of my sweatshirt in his clenched hand.

Oh my god. what did I say about touching me?
I wiggle around and he pulls me closer in his arm, if that is possible.
Normally I would hit him for this but he looks generally asleep so I can tell he can't control what he does.
I'm left with no choice but to lay there until he wakes up. I look around the room to see everything knocked down due to me and Shane running in to things on our way in.
I look at him and think about his change in behavior towards me. I wonder if there is a motive behind it or what changed. I mean why did he come back and start talking to me? Of all people? I wish I knew why.
My thought are interrupted when  I hear talking from outside the door. I make out Alex's voice talking on a phone I assume.

"Yeah I'm trying hard this year, don't want to end up like kat's dad I mean that's a disappointment." he says and I feel my blood boil. I know my dad is not perfect but no one talks about him like that especially Alex.

He laughs." I know it's so pathetic."

"Yeah her mom just left, she didn't even care about her kids." who the hell is he talking to and why the hell is he talking about my family?
I sit up pushing Shane off and listen.
"Yeah and her brother well he's a lost cause for sure. He's out getting drunk instead of going to school. Like father like son I guess."
I feel the bed move a little and see Shane's sit up next to me putting his hand on my shoulder.
"Kitty...." he says knowing why I look mad.
"I'm fine." I say quickly getting out of the bed and going to the bathroom, slamming the door.

That asshole tries to be friends after years of not talking and then has the nerve to go behind my back taking shit about my family.
I calm down after a while and come back out to see Shane, shirtless by the way, as he's pacing looking pissed. He looks up at me and his expression softens.
"Alex is an idiot don't listen to him." Shane says. I seriously feel like bashing Alex's head in so hard right now. I tell him that it doesn't matter and he decides to drop it for the time being.
I don't feel like seeing Alex at all do Shane decide that we are going to hide out in his room until Alex leaves.
I sit on the floor while Shane's across me. We decided on playing monopoly, not planning on leaving this room for a while.

"You cheater!" Shane yells.
"Me? you're the one who's cheating!" I yell back. so much for a nice game of monopoly.
"I haven't cheated. Why do you keep accusing me?" I say. I hear Alex's car door slam indicating he left so I decide to end this before someone gets seriously hurt.
"Stop saying I cheated. I'm not playing with you anymore." I say getting up and walking out of his room.
"Oh come on kitty." He begs but I walk down to the living room, ignoring him.
"No." I say.
"Fine be that way." he says walking into the kitchen, right past me.
"Good morning Kat." I turn to see Cassandra there all ready and dressed for the day.
"Good morning."I say to her and she grins.
"Your guys' game got intense in there." she chuckles.
"That's because she's a cheater." we hear from the kitchen. I roll my eyes and she laughs and walks to the living room.
I go to the kitchen to see what Shane is doing. I walk into see him making some eggs and bacon. My mouth immediately waters at the smell invading my senses.

"Put your tongue back in your mouth." Shane looks at me amused.
I close my mouth and glare at him.
I sit at the stools just watching. Shane flips the eggs with ease his lower arm muscles flexing as he flicks his wrists to flip the food.

Shut up kat.

My internal fight with myself ends when a plate of delicious food is placed in front of me.
"Oh thank you." I say devouring the food.
Shane chuckles shaking his head.
"No problem kit Kat."
"Are you better now?" he asks referring to the Alex thing before.
"Yeah." I say quietly, wishing he would just drop it.
I can feel his eyes studying me and he's come to know when I'm lying.

"Kat.." He says using my name for once.
"It's just he had no right to say those things I mean what the hell!" I let out my previous anger.
"Don't listen to him kitty, he's an idiot ." he sighs.
Shane sits in the stool next to me eating his breakfast when the front door opens.

Well great.

Alex walks in and slightly falters when he sees me.
"You're still here?" he says looking confused.
Again Shane answers for me which in this case is probably better than me talking to him right now.
"Yeah she is. What are you doing here?" he asks pissed.
Alex starts to say something but the one and only devil herself walks in.
"What the- what is she doing here?" she exaggerates.
I feel and arm making me stand.
"We were just leaving." Shane says leading me out the door to his car.
"You're gonna leave the house like that?" I say to his half naked-ness.
"I know what your thinking, wow isn't Shane just a hot sexy devil." he smirks.

"Well you got the devil part right." I say before getting into the car and his smirk falls. I feel happy that I caused that stupid smirk to fall.

As we drive around aimlessly, Shane's phone starts ringing.

"Hello."

"Yeah mom I know."

"Ok I'll get it."

"Ok yeah bye."

He says before hanging up. I look at him confused.
"That was about the annual family council party thing." he says.
They have these every year, in one building the adults are having a fancy little party and discussing business I'm assuming and in another the kids are having a wild party. They use it as an excuse to party and get drunk.
I'm not even sure the council even meets but what do I know.
"Oh yeah and you're coming with me." he surprises me.
"What? no I'm not." I say looking at him.
"Yes you are, you have to." he says.
"But Brit and Alex and her minions are part of the family council thing too. They're going to be there. no way." I say. "I've been banned from these kinds of things."
"You are going to let them walk all over you like that?" Shane asks.
"Why do you want me to go? why not the many girls who adore you?" I ask.

"Because you never get out and party and it's their fault and I want to show them they can't walk over you. Plus it will be less boring if I know someone there that I don't completely hate. Besides no one is really my biggest fan these days." He answers.

All the more reason not to go.

"I don't know I--" I start.

"Kitty you are coming, come on" he almost begs.
I guess it might be fun to get out.
I debate with myself, reluctantly deciding to give it a try.
"Fine." I groan.
Shane smiles big and seems happy I'm going for unknown reasons.

We'll see you at my funeral.
