SHANE'S POV
"We have a problem..." Turning around I hear Kat's distressed voice from behind her bathroom door. I quickly move from my position on her bed and make my way over to the door. "What's wrong? Are you okay?" I question, pressing my ear up against the door, waiting for an answer. Moments of silence pass worrying me by the minute. I knock my hand against the door trying to catch her attention. "You still in there kitty?"
"It doesn't fit." Her voice carries through the wooden door. I scrunch my face in confusion. The door swings open revealing Kat in a navy blue strappy dress that is only partially on, with a look of distress on her face.
After the initial reaction of seeing her I sigh. "What the hell? You scared the crap out of me, I thought something bad happened." Shaking my head I subconsciously give her a once over."Your mom gave me one damn job. One! 'Be my maid of honor'. I thought, hey that sounds fun! It's not Shane! It is not! It's stressful. That was almost five months ago Shane. She is counting on me! How am I supposed to be a maid of honor if I can't even get this freaking dress to zip up all the way." She doesn't take a breath as she continues.
"Why did she even pick me anyway? I mean I don't know the first thing about being a maid of honor. I don't know what the hell I'm even doing! Letting her down, that's what I'm doing!" Her hands move around sporadically as she gets more and more anxious. I begin to speak but she cuts me off. "Oh and, here's the kicker. She wants me to give a speech. A speech! I don't do speeches or large crowds of people Shane! I can't give a speech I-" Throwing my hand over her mouth I force her into silence holding her head between my hands. "Kitty you are babbling, again. Okay just listen to me." I lift my hand from her mouth slowly as she nods. "First of all, no more coffee in the morning for you." I grab her cup placing it out of reach. She inaudibly whines as I move it away. I look over at her crazy state, with her dress sitting at her hips, her bra and stomach visible. Her hair is slightly ruffled and she looks like she's had one too many cups of coffee for such a small person.
"You are doing just fine okay? She asked you to be her maid of honor because you're special to her and a big part of why she's getting married again. Besides the wedding is ways away from now." I try to reassure her as much as I can. I've been watching her stress over this wedding since the day my mom asked her to be the maid of honor. After the whole trial fiasco my mom left George immediately. She couldn't deal with what he did. She did extend the invitation to Alex saying he is still her son and she wants him to know that she loves him no matter what his father did. Thankfully he is eighteen so he decided to stay with us.As ecstatic as I was to have my parents back together I didn't see the reasoning for having another wedding. They already had one before, albeit a crappy one from what I hear but still it happened. But my mom insisted on it, saying they were going to get it right this time. Who am I to argue?
"Also..." I pause, moving behind her and helped her pull her dress completely up. "You were so busy freaking out about the zipper that you didn't realize you just needed a little help." I mumble into her ear as I swiftly pull the zipper all the way up in one solid motion, my hands not moving from their spot on her back. I see her shoulders physically relax at my touch. I give her a kiss on the neck before she turns around to face me. Sheepishly she grins at me, slowly placing her arms around my neck. My hands find her waist as she moves closer. "I'm nuts." She mumbles, pressing her forehead against mine. Her eyes flutter closed at her breathing relaxes. "Yeah, kind of." I answer back, my finger making lazy circles into her sides. "That was rhetorical Shane."------------
"Dude? What are you doing?" I find Alex in the backyard alone continuously throwing a basketball ball into the old ratty net that we have set up outside. The one that neither of us has used since we were at least ten years old.
"I'm trying to beat my own record, that's what." He turns chucking the ball and missing by a fraction.
"And apparently sucking at it." I can't help but comment as I watch the ball bounce against the concrete, making its way to the fence, hitting the wood with a hard smack.
He scoffs, throwing me a defensive look as he fails to hide a smile. "I'm rusty, if you hadn't noticed I haven't played for years." He scoops up the ball, making his way back over to the spot where he was throwing.
"Excuses, excuses." I continue to tease him as I watch him visibly roll his eyes at me.
"Yeah, okay I'd like to see you do better." He lifts his eyebrows, looking pointedly at me, silently challenging."That sounds like a challenge, you're on." I narrow my eyes, daring him to take the offer. He nods with a smirk before tossing the ball at my chest as I catch it with ease.
I pretend to crack my neck and fingers preparing myself. "Now watch closely and take notes." I comment before setting up for the shot. I toss the ball upwards with the flick of my wrist and watch it fly. It lands against the rim, slowly circling around it before dropping down right through the net with ease. I turn with a proud smirk as Alex scoffs at my smugness."Let's play and see how good you are then." Alex suggests nodding his head up to the net ready for any challenge.
"You're on." Automatically we begin scrambling around the small yard attempting to block each other from making a clear shot. I successfully block him a couple times before he finally makes the shot only furthering my competitive side. He fist pumps in excitement before turning getting back to the game. We play for a good three hours before collapsing onto the grass in a sweat.
I won by four points, putting us at a five to nine score.
"Fine, you win." He huffs, breathing heavily. I laugh getting a cramp from all of the exercise.
After our short break we both get up and head back into the house our stench slowly seeping into it.
"I love you both but you guys smell horrible!" Mom makes her way in to the house at the same time we do.
"That's because I beat his ass." I point my thumb back indicating Alex. She begins to smile as Alex scoffs.
"Barely!" He says defensively, throwing his hands up.
"Four points man! Four!" I mention to him before I strip off my sweat ridden shirt.
"Yeah yeah yeah." He mumbles before making his way up the stairs continually mumbling incoherently to himself.
I turn towards mom with a smug smile and whisper.
"I totally beat him."///////////////////////////
