KATS POV
"Wow Shane, I see the theme of the night is cheesy." I look up at all the flashing lights glowing and cheering of kids from beside us. There are clowns and jugglers grazing the area walking by the big pinned up stripped tents. I turn my head to the clank of a prize winner, cheering erupting from that area. I look up higher to see the shining ferris wheel spinning slowly, the lights blinking rapidly, the colors spreading all over people faces.
Shane snatches my hand in his, our fingers finding their way to each other as they interlock. "Well, cheesy is my middle name." He turns his head back with a large smile on him face, staring right at me. I roll my eyes, trying and failing at hiding a smile.
"Come on kitty, a carnival! That's pretty sick don't deny it." He looks around excitedly, looking like a little kid having the time of his life, free of worry.
"I'm not denying anything." I look around fully admiring the whole place. He's right, it's pretty cool.
His smile widens at my comment and he drags me over a shooting game with the clown heads and the water guns.
We spend the entire night running around carelessly getting on any ride we could, having the time of our lives. We hopped on the carousel, gaining contemptuous stares from on looking parents who weren't pleased. We laughed it off focusing on having as much fun as we can get it. I stare up to the top of the ride wishing this could be eternal.//////
"Thank you for this." I lean my head against Shane's chest, holding a stuffed elephant in one arm and a blue and pink swirled cotton candy in my other. He wraps his arm around my waist pulling me even closer to his side. "You're very welcome." He plucks the cotton candy from my fingers, placing a soft kiss against my hair. We walk slowly through the active carnival under the navy blue sky, taking our time. I slip my now free hand into the warmth of his jacket pocket, leaning my body into his. We stop in our tracks leaning against each other. He now wraps both of his arms around my waist comfortably pulling me closer, our faces barely an inch apart. I feel his hot breath fan my face, as his eyes settle on mine softly. "So, why did you decide to have a date all of a sudden? It was unexpected but appreciated." I add to my pondering question. He grins quickly, leaning down to bump my nose with his before, licking his lips, pondering my question. "Uh, you've been having a tough couple of weeks with all this crap being brought up and I just wanted you to have some fun and be happy." He breaths out finding his answer. "Besides I don't think we've been alone at all and it was my chance to have you all to myself for a day." He adds with a small chuckle. I break eye contact looking around giving him a strange look. "We're not really alone." I motion to the crowds of people walking around the carnival as well. He follows my gaze nodding in agreement. "Close enough." He shrugs, his bottom lip between his teeth. I smile up at him, still unable to believe we have actually come this far. Looking around us I admire the place, taking in all of the colors and sounds trying to lock it it to my mind. My eyes trail upward and a giant grin makes its way onto my face, my eyes widening. Shane catches my look and looks to the side where I am staring, a smile creeping on to his face as well as he catches on to my idea. "My turn to be cheesy." I mumble pulling Shane over to the Glowing Ferris wheel. He chuckles as I drag him over, his laughter filling the air with a sweet sound. A sound I've come to enjoy tremendously.
I slide into the dark swing first Shane coming in soon after. The carnie pulls the safety lever down nodding at us.
Shane throws his arm over my shoulder, pulling me into his embrace, his warm hand gripping my arm.
As the ride starts I bounce excitedly, staring around watching the carnival get smaller and smaller as we go higher until it looks like a bunch of colors fused together. Calming down I slump into Shane's touch, looking up at his face to find him watching me with all the happiness in the world. We make it to the top of the Ferris wheel, looking at the view. I press my face into his cheek leaving sweet little pecks again his cold skin, feeling his chest rumble with a light chuckle. I laugh along with him feeling light and free. I lift my face slightly, our noses touching. His eyelids lower, watching me through his eyelashes. Our lips brush against each other, causing a shiver to shoot through my body, making Shane smirk. Not being able to handle much more, I grab the collar of his jacket and press my lips against his in a frenzy. He leans into the kiss, deepening it, his fingers tracing the exposed skin on my hips. He bites my bottom lips sweetly, tugging at it. He brushes his lips with mine again smiling against them before leaning back in.
Pushing my hair back with his icy fingertips, he lifts his face only inches from mine. We make our way past the top of the Ferris wheel, heading back down. Licking his lips, he watches me carefully a smile creeping onto his face. Even in the dark his eyes sparkle with a mischievous glare. "What?" I ask as he continues to stare at me silently. "You are amazing you know that." He comments. "After everything I did to you, you still gave me a chance. I wouldn't blame you if you never wanted to talk to me again."
I stare at him sweetly. "To tell you the truth, I never really hated you. You were just an ass most of the time." I tell him. He immediately bursts into laughter, shaking his head. "I'm sorry you had to deal with me on top of everything else you were going through. I know it didn't help." His contorts with a sad look. "Thanks." I answer not knowing how else to. I lean into his body, pressing my face into his chest. Tonight really felt like the perfect night.:::::::::::
"What are you smiling about?" I walk over to my locker to meet Brit. We've been really trying to fix things. "Nothing." I say, pulling my locker open, swinging it quickly hiding my face. Brit pulls the locker back, her eyebrows scrunched, smiling.
"Shane took me on a date yesterday." I tell her, smiling again. Her eyes widen and opens her mouth to the shape of an O. "Shane? Took you on a date?" She says unbelievably, shaking her head. "Yeah I know that's exactly what I thought." I say, laughing. "Where did you guys go?" She asks still not able to believe it. "He brought me to the carnival." I tell her. "Wow he's just full of surprises isn't he?" She comments raising her eyebrow.
"Yes, I am. Thanks for noticing." I feel a warm breath move down my neck. I roll my eyes and turn around to meet the very guy we were speaking about. He smiles, slipping his arm around my shoulder protectively. People start making their way into school, everyone stopping in their tracks. They all look in our direction with a mix of different facial expressions ranging from disgust to pity and everything in between. It's the first day back at school since everything I went through became public knowledge, I was stupid to think I could avoid any of this. Shane's glare hardens, wrapping his arm tighter around me. To add to that because of the new trial they released Nate until the court dates, letting him come back to school. There goes my good morning.
Thankfully the bell rings and everyone heads to their classes. As Shane and I enter English everyone look at us, I stare at the back of the room to find Nate's eyes burning into me. My breathing quickens as we go over to our desks, settling in.
The entire time people discretely throw nasty comments my way, clearly favoring Nate. I watch Shane's demeanor change as his fist clutches a pencil tightly, trying to keep his cool. I just try to keep myself busy and pay attention to the lesson. A lot easier said than done.
After class Shane walks behind me as I make my way to the door. Mrs Sanchez waves me over, talking lowly. "Are you doing okay?" She asks sweetly. "Yeah, I'm fine." I answer back , hoping to leave as quickly as possible. "That's not what she screamed when I was inside her." I hear Nate's voice mumble. Turning around in shock I find Shane throwing him into the nearest wall, his arm pressing against his throat. There faces are only inches apart when Shane speaks menacingly low. "What the hell did you just say?" He practically growls. Everyone that remains in the room freezes as the scene plays out. Nate smirks, making eye contact with me before looking straight at Shane. He whispers so lowly in Shane's ear that I have a hard time hearing him. "I said, when I was doing her she was screaming my name f-" He doesn't get a chance to finish his horrid sentence because Shane throws his fist right into his jaw. Nate looks up, grabbing his jaw, staring at him murderously. He jumped at Shane landing a couple big punches on his face before Shane gets leverage and flips Nate over and starts beating the crap out of him, not holding back one bit. Some of the football players that were still in the room attempt to pull them apart but they get thrown back. Mrs Sanchez grabs her phone and calls the school security, heaving. Shane lifts Nate's now bloody body and throws him back against the wall. He throws one last punch across his face, leaning closer. "Don't. touch. her!" He growls in his face. Nate, despite the bruises on his face, smirks once more chuckling.
