KAT'S POV
I have never been so frustrated in my life. It hurts to know that my mom was not only lying to me but to my entire family. She told us she quit and that she left to get better. That obviously wasn't true. She didn't even try to help herself. I also can't help to feel slight anger towards my dad and my brother for welcoming her with open arms. I understand that they wanted things back to normal but the reality of the situation is that our lives will never be the same. We can't just go back to being a perfect family.

Waking up the very next day was draining to say the least. I feel all of my energy fly out of the window as soon as my eyes flutter open.
I groan trying to sit up in a comfortable position. I look around to find a dark and empty room surrounding me. The only source of light is from the slivers of sunshine coming through the small window.
It's so quiet you could hear a pin drop. The only noise is the constant beeping of the monitor next to me.

As if he some how knew I was awake, Shane walks into my room with his hoodie covering his head.
He has a small brown bag in his right hand and my phone in his left.
"Hey." I acknowledge him, softly.
He motions for me to scoot over and sits beside me, stretching his legs out and crossing them at the ankles.
"Morning Kitty." He gives me an award winning smile as he looks over at me.

"I have two questions for you." I tell him, meeting his eyes.
He raises his eyebrows. "Okay, shoot."

"First of all, what's in the bag? And second, why do you have my phone?" I say sweetly.

"Well, I thought you'd want your phone back but if you don't...?" He teases, holding it up.
"I do!" I attempt to grab it from his elongated arms. He moves it higher knowing I can't move.
"It's rude to be mean to a cripple." I cross my arms.
"Oh shut up, stop being a drama queen. You are not a cripple." He rolls his eyes at my dramatics.
He then hands me my phone with an innocent smile.
"Thank you." I hug his arm.
"...and your dad wanted me to give you this." He hands me the small brown bag.
I take it slowly and open it to reveal a half charred necklace. More specifically my necklace.
"Aww they saved my necklace." I stare at it, examining it.
"Is it special or something?"
Shane smiles down at me.
"It is to me. It was my grandmothers, she gave it to me a long time ago before she died." I explain to him. He nods with understanding.

I scrunch my eyebrows and turn my body towards Shane. "Why didn't my dad just give it to me himself ?" I ask with the most sincere confusion.

"I think he blames himself. At least that's what it looks like." He sighs.

"It wasn't his fault." I point out.

"I know that Kitty but he thinks because he let your mom move back in he indirectly caused this to happen." He recites my dads words to me.

"That's ridiculous." I shake my head.

"Yeah about as ridiculous as you blaming yourself." He counters, narrowing his eyes at me.
"That's different, I could have stopped it." He sighs as I explain.

"We are not going to fight about this again Kat." He pauses. "You're so stubborn."
"Yup." I smile up at him.

-----/-----

"Kitty, if you don't eat it then I will." Shane holds up a small cup of blue jello out to me that a nurse told me to eat two hours ago.
"Why? I don't want it and they are releasing me today anyway." I push his hands away.
"Kitty! Just eat it." He practically begs me. "You have to eat something."
"I will eat when I get home." I sit up, looking at him.
He grabs the arm of his hoodie which is now encasing my body instead.
"Please? For me." He pulls me closer to him. He then pulls out the most adorable puppy dog face to date.
"Seriously?" I try not to look at him. He continues looking at me with those mesmerizing crystal orbs.
"Fine!" I snap, grabbing the jello cup and small plastic spoon.
"Yes! Finally!" Shane pumps his fists, giving me an obnoxious and dramatic hug.
I roll my eyes as I keep my head rested against his shoulder. I scrape the cup, eating the damn jello.

After only two days in this hospital I feel like I am freaking out. I wish it was tonight so that I could just leave already.
Throughout the day my dad has brought me bags and him and Shane have packed up a bunch of my stuff so that I can leave later when they release me.

"I can help you know." I say to Shane who is stuffing a bag.
"No you're supposed to rest." He lightly pushes my shoulder against the hospital bed.
I give him a stern look, rolling my eyes.
"Doctors rules!" He tried to defend himself.
"Since when are you one to follow rules Shane?" I say skeptically.
"True." He pauses, moving over to me. "But this is important. We can't have you fainting." He lifts his hoodie on top of my head, fixing my hair.
"And besides you would take too long you know being a cripple and all. I am better at this." He points to the bags, smirking.
"Wow you really know how to charm a lady." I say sarcastically.
He looks around the room dramatically, squinting his eyes.
"I don't see any ladies around here." He says with a straight face.
I widen my eyes and scoff, pushing him away from me. "Asshole!"
He chuckles, pushing my hands away.
"You're not funny." I say in a monotone voice.
He grins, raising an eyebrow.
"I'm pretty funny." He looks at me.

I look around the room the boredom tugging at my brain.
"What time is it?" I tap his arm lightly.
"Uhhh..." He takes his phone out of his pocket and checks it. "It's 5:30, you've got an hour and a half to go kitty. You can do it." He try's to give me an encouraging smile.
I sigh throwing my head back. "Are you kidding me?" I whine.
"It'll go by fast trust me." He says and then attempts to distract me for the next hour and a half.
It's funny how fast time goes when you're actually having fun.

-----/-----

"Okay, you are all signed out and ready to go. Just take it easy okay you are going to be a little sore for a while." The doctor explains to me as my dad signs the paperwork so that we can go.
I slide to the edge of the bed and put my hand out to grab anything sturdy enough  to hold me up. Shane watched me struggle and he comes over to help. Grabbing my waist he pulls me into his side putting my arm around his neck, securing myself. My dad comes in giving me a loving smile and grabs a bunch of the bags.
For the most part I can walk except for the small limp in each step.

Once we arrived home after a silent car ride Shane lead me up to my room as my dad grabbed the bags from the car.
He brought me inside and finally let me stand up on my own.
"You good?" He asks with wide eyes.
I chuckle lightly. "I'm good."
"Okay." He checks the clock above my mirror. "I'm going to head home okay?" He says looking back at me with tired eyes.
I nod also feeling extremely exhausted.
"Call me if you need anything. Anything." He steps extremely close to me playing with a stray curl from my loose bun. I watch him as he stares intently at the curl.
"Yup." I tell him simply. I didn't feel like arguing about how I am okay and that he needs to stop worrying.
"Okay. Good night." He licks his lips, his voice sounding deeper and raspier.
He kisses my forehead softly before leaving without another word.
I watch him until he's out of sight and then head to bed. I slip under the covers finding a strange comfort and safety in Shane's jacket.
