KAT'S POV
"Ok see you later." I say to Nikki before walking in the other direction.
Suddenly I'm being pulled to the side of a hallway and come face to face with Alex.
I'm shocked that he's actually going to talk to me considering he hasn't said much to me since the end of ninth grade, but there is unfortunately a part of me that is giddy at the thought of him talking to me again but I have to be strong.
"What are you doing?" I pull my arm away, looking at him with confusion.
"So you're hanging out with Shane now? With the guy that pretty much put you through hell?" He says ignoring my first comment. Actually you put me through hell too.
"Why do you care?" I ask, it's not like he cared about me before and he never really did anything when Shane bullied me either. So why does he care now that Shane is back?
"He bullied you for years and now you guys are like hanging out. What the hell Kat?" he says ignoring my words again. I give him a confused face and he keeps going.
"I just don't want him to hurt you again." he says but it doesn't sound sincere, instead it's accusatory and rude."Oh what I start talking to your step brother and now you talk to me and try to protect me." I say feeling pissed. Usually I'd never talk to him like this but I'm already in a bad mood.
"He's going to mess with you like he always does." Alex says. You messed with my feelings. I feel like telling him to stop being a hypocrite but I stop myself. Before I can say anything I feel a hot breath running down my neck, causing me shiver.
"You're one to talk Alex. I'm pretty sure you've hurt Kat plenty." I hear Shane's accusatory voice behind me. Like I said everyone knew how much I liked Alex. Guilt crosses Alex's face but vanishes quickly after, knowing full well what he did to me.
"I mean who does that? Just ending a friendship after stringing her along and..." Shane continues obviously trying to get to Alex.
"Shut up shane!" Alex says stepping forward.
"Go to hell." Shane snaps before grabbing my hand and dragging me away. I look back to see Alex fuming.
Ever since they became step brothers when they were 9 they never got along they've never been close and always fight. Shane's mother tried so hard to have them like each other but it never worked.
"You ok kitty?" Shane asks.
"I'm fine." I nod slowly. I'm still not understanding why he is all of a sudden being nice to me and defending me but I'm going to find out.
I start walking down the hall. "I can't believe he had the nerve to say all that when he's the one who messed with me." I say my thoughts out loud forgetting Shane's there."You're telling me." Shane says.
"You looked like you were about to kill him." he chuckles.
"I might've." I say walking slowly away. Shane catches up with ease and nudges my shoulder.
"So kitty what are your plans today?"
"Um nothing I guess. why?" I look at him.
"Good." He says pushing me all the way towards his car.
"What are you doing?" I ask confused.
"We are going for ice cream." he says and I smile without even thinking because that is my weakness and of course Shane would know that.We go to an old fashioned shop with booths and 50s music.
We sit In a booth in a far corner.
"So what do you want?" Shane asks acting like we do this all the time.
I look at him with out responding and he sighs. "Are you ever going to trust me?" he says. Is this a feeble attempt at an apology? Because it's not that simple.
I narrow my eyes at him. "I don't know I find it weird the whole being decent thing your doing."
"Well I'm trying. I really do want to show you that I'm not that stupid kid anymore. I have changed a lot. Which is hard cause I just want to make fun of you so bad all the time." he admits getting a laugh out of me. Our little truth fest gets interrupted by a waiter. She sees Shane and starts acting like every other girl who sees him.
"What can I get you?" she asks only looking at him. He kicks my foot silently asking me what I want.
"Uhh cotton candy." I say like a child. Shane rolls his eyes at my child-ness. "How about you?" she leans against the table batting her eyelashes at Shane. "Rocky road." He says simply winking at her. I roll my eyes.
"Wow could she be more obvious." I laugh looking at Shane. His grin widens at my words. "Are you jealous?" He mocks, making my cheeks heat up. "Uhh you wish." I scrunch my nose. He looks at me and chuckles. Thankfully he doesn't get a chance to say anything because our ice cream was here. "Thank you." I say before devouring my ice cream without a care. "Classy kitty, real classy." He chuckles sarcastically. I glare at him with a mouthful of ice cream. "Nice." He says, nodding. After we had finished the delicious ice cream, Shane drove me back to my house. I get out of the car and turn around to thank him.
Instead I come face to face with him following me. I stop in my tracks and give him a confused look. What is he doing?
"Guess who's coming to dinner." Shane's smiles, pointing both of his thumbs towards himself. I groan before turning around and grudgingly walk towards my front door, while Shane follows behind me laughing. Apparently my dad invited Shane for dinner without even asking me.
------------We sat down for the most dreadful dinner ever. I had Shane on one side of me, Austin on the other and across from me was my dad. This is most awkward dinner I've had. Shane and my dad talked most of the time, catching up on their boxing obsession.
Every once in a while Shane would put his hand on my knee occasionally making me jump. He obviously doing it on purpose to get a reaction out of me.
There's the Shane I know so well.
My dad notices my jumpiness.
"What's wrong kat?"
"Uhh nothing." I say a little breathy.
I glare at Shane and he winks at me making me glare even harder.
My brother and dad haven't fought the whole dinner and I'm surprised. Maybe because they're focused on Shane but still it's nice.
My brother notices the looks between me and Shane and he nudges my shoulder wiggling his eyebrows. I kick his foot and we all go back to eating. Somehow this all goes unnoticed. Like I said awkward.-----------
After dinner my dad and brother both clear and clean the table talking to Shane. I go to my room to breath before I die. That was the most awkward dinner I ever had and what made it worse was it was only awkward for me.
I lay on my bed playing with my phone when Shane walks into my room. He barges in and goes around my room playing with stuff.
"You always were a Disney freak, kitty." he finally says looking around my disney inspired room.
I ignore him focusing on the last level of my game, almost making it to the last level. Thee key word being almost because as I was about to reach the end, my phone gets slapped out of my hand, killing my character.
"What the hell Winters!"
"What was I supposed to do? you were ignoring me. Besides your getting a new one anyways right?" he gives a knowing smirk and shrugs.
"You could of just said something." I say. "What's the fun in that." he chuckles flopping down next to me.
"God you're annoying." I sigh. Flipping on my back looking up at my ceiling. I keep a distance away from him.
"It's all for you sweetheart." he puts his hand on my shoulder.
It's Friday so we don't have school the next day so he decides to stay a long while. We somewhat get along. Kind of.-/-
My dad decides to have a movie night with all of us.
I am so happy that he's at least trying to make an effort unlike mom.
The boys decide on a horror movie. don't get me wrong I love horrors but I usually need Nikki with me so I have someone to cling onto. We watch one I've never seen before which is worse cause I don't know when things will pop out. Since our couch is a two person couch, Shane and I were volunteered to sit on the floor. We sit on the floor with a bunch of blankets so I can hide, while my dad and brother sit on the couch. Shane goes to turn off every light in the house so that it's pitch black with only the movie providing light.
He sits back down next to me grinning at how scared I already look. Then the movie starts.
We get to around the middle of the movie and a axe murderer jumps out making me jump almost on top of Shane. He laughs at me quietly but then leans in whispering in my ear.
"Do you need to hold my hand?" he mocks. I shake my head. I can handle this.
After five minutes more of the movie I jump again.
I turn to look at him silently asking him for his hand. he shakes his head and holds out his hand which I grab. Normally I wouldn't even touch him but I'm going to die if I don't hold someone. I jump once again and squeeze Shane's hand, scared.
This is going to give me nightmares tonight.
By the end of the movie I'm hiding behind the blankets holding on to Shane's entire arm.
Once it finishes Austin turns on the lights.
"You can let go now.....unless you don't want to." Shane whispers close to my ear, chuckling.
I let go. "sorry." I blush.
"No problem. These claw marks don't hurt anyway." he says and I notice that I must have dug my nails into his skin because he has nail marks on him.
"Oops." I say shyly. We all get up
and Shane explains that he should get home. I hold the door open for Shane to go out. he stand outside turning towards me.
"Sweet nightmares kitty." he smiles. I slap his chest for teasing me.
"Bye." he sings walking away.
This was an interesting night.---------//////--/////-////////-/---/-----
