Chapter 6

Candy's POV

I know June is in for it when the guys walked in. I went and sat on the couch next to Kathy and Rosie. The guys stared at June and June was looking at the floor and then the guys and then back at the floor again. Kathy, Evie, Rosie, Beth, and I were looking back and forth at all of them without saying a word. That is until Darry spoke "June, what the hell happened and where were you?" He yelled angrily at my little sister. She looked up at them but looked at Darry and said "I got jumped." She said to him and then looked at Dally. Dally and her are REAL close. She looks up to him. "How did you get jumped?! You were supposed to go home like I told you!" Darry yelled again. June continued staring at the floor with everybody else staring at her waiting for her answer. "I did go home but-" she was caught off by her VERY protective twin. "If you went home then you wouldn't have gotten jumped!" Pony yelled. June looked up and said "Would you let me finish?! I went home but got mad that you guys didn't let me fight so I left and went to pick a fight. Like how Dally taught me and I went to the lot and there were more socs than I thought there would be. So I was thinking whether or not I should go home or not but I decided to fight and I did to. But I didn't last long." June explained which made the boys even more mad. "Why did you go pick a fight when your brother told you to go home? We tell you things to protect you June! Damn it!! Can't you listen?!" Dally screamed. June looked up and yelled "It isn't like you listen Dal! We tell you to be careful but you end up in the cooler like always! Is that being careful?! Oh and stop being over protective all the time! I am so sick and tired of being treated like I am the baby! I mean Ponyboy is the same age as me and I don't see you guys treating him like you do me!" I was shocked no one gets away with yelling at Dally except June and Johnny. But boy, June look out. "Well unlike you June, I have a reputation to protect and we will NEVER stop protecting you! Then Ponyboy can take care of himself!! He knows how to fight. So when you learn how to fight then maybe just maybe, we won't treat you like the baby!" Dally yelled. Dally and June never fight. I know this is hard for June. Because the look in her eyes say that she just wants to cry. So now is my turn. "Guys leave her alone. Ok? Just leave her alone!" I said. Two-Bit looked at me and said "Candy, we can handle this." Ok, now it looks like Mickey Mouse is going to get his ass kicked by Minnie Mouse. "Two-Bit! It isn't like this is the first thing she did bad so why are you going to get mad at her now? She is a kid! Nobody is perfect! Everyone makes mistakes and June made one now. What is the big deal? Yeah I know that she got jumped and that is terrible but, it isn't like you guys haven't made mistakes!" I said and now it is Soda's turn. "Candy, stay out of this." He said. I was going to say something when June beat me to it. "GUYS! Stop yelling at each other! Just give me my punishment already! Ground me, I don't care just stop fighting because of me! I am not worth fighting over! So when you guys have a punishment than let me know!" She said and ran to her room then slammed her door shut. We looked at each other. Beth broke the silence. "I know she did something wrong but yelling at her won't help the situation. She is a thirteen year old girl, she will make mistakes. But yelling will do no good." Thank you Beth. "I am going to check on her but before I do, Dally, don't yell at her like that. You know how she looks up to you and yelling at her, you really did it. But don't yell at her, any of you guys, she doesn't deserve to be yelled at." Steve was going to say something but was cut off by cries coming from June's room. June hasn't cried since mom and dad died. I ran to her room, hoping she will let me in.

June's POV

I went to my room and slammed the door. I was filled with two emotions; anger and sad. I was angry and upset because I can take care of myself. Well, most of the time. Then, Dallas yelled at me. I mean, it may not seem like a big deal but, we are best friends and deep down inside it hurts when he yelled at me. The gang is my family and I hate it when they are mad at me. They say I am the kid of the gang, which is right but Ponyboy is a kid too. Hell, we are twins but, they still treat him like a teenager and me as the baby. I was brought out of my thoughts by a knock at the door. I thought it would be one of the guys so I didn't say anything until I heard "June?" Candy asked. "Can I come in?" She asked and I answered "Is anyone else out there with you?" I heard her chuckle and say "No." I walked over to the door and opened it. Candy walked in and sat down on my bed with me following her. "Baby, I'm sorry they yelled at you. They are over protective of you for a lot of things. Like, they are protective over you because they love you, they care about you, you are the youngest, and they never raised anyone before like this. You and Ponyboy were the only kids that weren't raised by mom and dad. The guys are mostly protective over you because they know how to raise a boy but, let me tell you something, raising a girl is hard. June, they love you. A lot." Wow. She took the questions right out of my mouth and made them into answers. "It's not fair." I said and she looked down then back up and said "Yeah, well life isn't fair. It wasn't fair that other kids still have parents or that their don't beat them!" Candy yelled. She gets really upset when it comes to mom and dad. "I'm sorry, Candy. I should of picked different words to use." I said and looked down at my worn out converse. I felt Candy staring at me and then I felt her wrap her arms around me. I hugged her back and laid my head on her shoulder. "I miss them so much." I said as tears came out of my eyes. "I know you do baby. I do too. So does everyone on the other side of the door who is listening." She said but whispered the last part so only I can here it. We broke the hug and got up and opened the door to see the all of the guys fall on the floor with all of the other girls fall on top of them. I laughed with Candy. "Fancy meeting you guys here." Two-Bit said and made everyone chuckle. They got up and the guys all said that they were sorry and everything what Candy said basically except Dally. Him and I just stared at each other and I saw sympathy in his eyes and I couldn't take it any longer. I ran into his arms and he hugged back. "I'm sorry Dally." I said. He answered "You don't have anything to be sorry about. I do. I'm sorry for yelling at you. I can't stay mad at my best friend." Then he kissed the top of my head. I smiled at him and he returned it. Then we heard clapping and "Awwww!" We turned around and faced the people we call family. We all got in a group hug. We broke apart and went eat chocolate cake and watch Mickey Mouse. Everybody was laughing and having a great time. I just wish it could stay like this. But no, this is only the beginning.
