Chapter 1

Baby Boy From Outer Space

Smallville, Kansas

Smallville was a nowhere, less than a hundred and fifty people lived in Smallville, that's why it's called Smallville. Almost everyone knew each other, there were never any major problems or crimes that went on. Smallville is a farming land, a huge farming land. Over twenty five percent of crops in America came from Smallville.

Smallville had thousands of great crops but it had great people too. Husband and wife, Jonathan and Martha Kent were loved by everyone in Smallville. They were both were thirty five years old and had not kids, unlike almost every other family in Smallville. Not only did they group hundreds of crops a year, they were good people. They would teach or help anyone who asked for it. The Kents were tough too, they got work done and stood up against corporations who tried to take over Smallville.

It was night time and Jonathan and Martha were driving home from the farmers market in the Chevy Truck. They lived about thirty minutes away. If there were freeways in Smallville, their route home might have been faster. The Kents always travel on dirt roads surrounded by corn fields. There was asphalt or concrete in Smallville.

They were about fifteen minutes away from home when they encountered the back of a large, silver and red rocket in the middle of the road. The rocket was blocking the road, the Kents couldn't drive around it. The rocket looked like it wasn't from Earth, it looked like it was from space. It was big enough to hold maybe a small dog or animal.

"What the hell?" Jonathan cursed in confusion. Nothing big went on in Smallville, this was a shocked to Martha too.

Jonathan and Martha got out of the truck and walked to the front of the rocket to find a shattered glass window on the rocket and mysterious writings in an unrecognizable, ancient language. Jonathan and Martha peeked inside the glass window to find a black haired baby boy who was maybe a year old wrapped in a red cape.

"My god..." Martha gasped while picking up the boy in her arms, "It's just a little boy."

"Martha, put the boy back in the rocket. Where don't know where he came from, why he's here. We don't even know if he's from Earth." Jonathan tried to get the boy out of Martha's hands and back in the rocket. "We need to call the Government, they'll deal with him."

"Why, so they could experiment with him? You saw what they were going to do in California, they were going to attack innocent people and blame it on the Russians! Jonathan, we're supposed to be good people, it wouldn't be the right thing to do if we give him up." Martha was clearly attached, sentimentallay to the boy.

Jonathan didn't want to argue, so he didn't even try to convince her to give up the boy. Instead, Jonathan looked around in the rocket ship and found a blue and red suit that would fit a man that was six feet tall and two hundred and ten pounds. Jonathan grabbed the suit and threw it in the back seat of the truck. He then grabbed out chains and attached them to the rocket and the back of the Chevy truck.

Jonathan knew the government was going show up soon. "We need to leave. If you really don't want the Government to find the boy then I recommend we get out of here."

Jonathan and Martha got in the Chevy truck and Jonathan drove back home. Martha held the boy, who wasn't frightened at all. The boy was happy, laughing and playful.

"Look at him Jonathan, he's laughing!" Martha smiled at the boy, "He's not scared."

"I am, we don't know where he came from or who he is and we're bringing him home!?" Jonathan replied in an angry tone.

Jonathan continued to drive until they arrived at home, on their farm. The horses and pigs were in their stalls, the chickens were asleep but the cows were still roaming.  Jonathan looked at the farm, the fields, and the house, wondering what was going to change. Jonathan and Martha got out of the Chevy truck. Martha walked inside and put the baby boy on the couch but Jonathan stayed outside, unchaining the rocket from the truck and bring the rocket inside the farmhouse.

After the rocket was inside the farmhouse, Jonathan walked inside to see Martha giving an action figure to the baby that had been left at their house by the neighbor's kids. Martha clearly loved the boy, she had a lot of fun with him but Jonathan was weary about the child. Jonathan wasn't the type of man to trust everything. He knew there were dangers in the world.

"Martha, what are we going to do with him?" Jonathan asked in a kind tone, Martha looked away from the baby and at Jonathan. "We don't know who he is, who his parents are, or any of that."

"We need to take care of him Jonathan. It's the right thing to do." Martha stated firmly. "I'm surprised you're not on board for this. I mean after our miscarriage all those years ago, I think it's time for us to have a second chance in having a child."

Jonathan sighed, remembering his' and Martha's devastation when they had a miscarriage. "I don't want to argue, especially since it's this late. We'll keep him, fine-," Jonathan couldn't finish as he saw that the boy had snapped the action figure, that Martha had given to him, in half. "Martha, look at the boy."

Martha gasped when she saw the broke action figure but realized something, "I know what we'll call him! We'll call him Clark." She completely ignored the fact that the boy had snapped the action figure in half. "Clark, named after the actor Clark Gable."

"What, why?" Jonathan questioned. He then remembered that the boy had snapped an action figure, in half! Something a teenager could barely do. "Martha! Did you even realize that he snapped the action figure in half?"

"Yes, that's why he's named after Clark Gable. Gable was strong, he served in the Air Force and always portrayed a strong character in his movies." Martha replied. Martha realized that Jonathan, even though agreeing to keeping the boy, was still unsure about it. "We have a strong boy, Jonathan. If we let him go, chances are, the Government will capture him and use him a weapon and I don't want that to happen."

"I know, Martha, we're good people." Jonathan said softly, "I just need a long moment to think." Jonathan walked upstairs and into his' and Martha's room to lie down and think.
