Chapter 39
Superman vs Valkyrie
Metropolis
Clark was flying around Metropolis looking for crimes to stop. He had just gotten off work and was done writing a story about himself, Superman. Clark was working with Lois. She was growing on him. He started to like her a lot. Also, Lois started to see him as less of a competition and more of a friend.
While flying around 52nd Street, Clark slowed down. 52nd Street was where many crimes such as muggings and robberies. While flying around, a large, metal golem suddenly hit Clark and towards the street. The golden hit hard, it hurt Clark. Clark took a look at the golem. It had blue, liquid like substances covering the metal on it's body. It also had a huge red light on the center of it's head. It wasn't alien, it may have been a robot or an android.
Clark, who was lying in a pothole in the road, started charging at the metal golem, which was floating in the air. Clark tackled the golem and held it by it's chest. Clark then started to punch the golem in the head. Clark wanted to keep the golem in the air so their fight wouldn't cause and damage or casualties.
The golem was a fighter. The golem shook Clark off it's body and grabbed Clark by the leg and threw him nearly five hundred feet higher than they already were. As Clark floated away in air, the golem chased after it. Clark decided to fly higher after he gained his balance. He was going to go into space, a feat he had never done. Hopefully the golem would follow Clark and shut down in space.
Clark's cape swiveled behind him as the golem chased him. As Clark and the golem approached the thermosphere, Clark started to slow down. He wasn't used to holding his breath for so long but he could manage. However, the golem was as active as it was back on Earth. Clark started to fly faster, he had to get away from the golem for his next attack.
Clark got about a hundred feet away from the golem. He then started charging towards it again at full speed. Clark hit the golem in it's stomach and flew it back towards Metropolis. Clark could tell the golem's systems were damaged. It's chest was dented and sparks were flying out of it.
"Clark! Clark!" Clark heard a faint voice coming from the golem.
Clark stopped putting pressure on the golem's stomach and he and the golem floated in the air for a few seconds. Suddenly, electricity started sparking all over the golem's body, shocking the golem and Clark.
"What's, what's going on?!" Clark heard the voice say as he and the golem fell towards the ground.
Clark and the golem hit the ground, sending a couple shockwaves through the city. He and the golem created a giant dip in the streets. There were people around, luckily no one was hurt. Clark ripped the golem open and found the word "Valkyrie" written on it's chest. Clark still ripped through the chest to find a body of a woman with green shorts and green pants. After Clark ripped through the face of the golem to find the face of a woman he knew. It was Lana Lang.
"Lana?" Clark stuttered.
"Clark." Lana said faintly while crying and smiling, "I-I love you Clark."
"Lana, what happened?!" Clark cried as his friend shut her eyes, "Lana!"
Clark started crying over Lana's body. She had passed. Whenever Clark was around her, something bad happened. First her paralysis, now this.
A crowd huddled around Clark and Lana's body, "Did Superman kill her?" Clark heard someone say.
"I think so." Someone else said. People kept muttering.
"Look at all this destruction!" The glass of buildings were destroyed. The roads were trashed. Clark bowed down over his friend's body, crying. "Move! Move it!" Clark heard a voice approaching him.
A bald man pushed through the crowds, Lex Luthor. Lex pointed his finger at Clark, "You caused this! Look around you! Look in front of you! They say you can move mountains, change the course of rivers. You have no regard for any human life. You don't understand how easy a life can be lost. It's clear you are alone. And it doesn't matter if you are the most powerful man in the world if you are alone. Nobody knows that better than me. You are no hero, you are a fraud. You have shown us who you truly are and we don't want you here."
People started cheering behind Lex and booing Clark. Clark picked up Lana's body and flew away, letting out tears. Lex was right, he was alone. He was the only Kryptonian alive in the universe.
