Chapter 4
Lose You
Smallville, Kansas
Jonathan had brought Clark outside. He had just found out a day ago how strong Clark was and knew it would be a problem if Clark didn't know how to control it. Jonathan knew how to teach Clark, he knew exactly how. Clark was old enough to help him with the farm work, so that's what Clark was going to do.
Jonathan and Clark stood outside in the barn yard. Clark was going to help Jonathan with moving haystacks since when Jonathan carried them, he would hurt his back. Clark stood next to Jonathan, bored. Jonathan knew Clark wouldn't want to do this, it would be too tedious for him.
"Pa... Do I have to do this?" Clark complained to his father.
"Yes Clark. You're not getting out of it." Jonathan informed his son, Jonathan smiled, "Why are you so disappointed? This should be easy, unless you're not strong enough."
Clark smiled and walked inside the barn. "Where do you want me to put the haystacks, Pa?"
"Put them in the back." Jonathan ordered as Clark ran over to the haystacks and picked two up.
Clark was fast, every time Jonathan blinked, he would see another haystack in the back. Soon, every haystack was standing in the back. Clark then ran back to Jonathan and smirked.
"Satisfied?" Clark asked with a smile.
"Move one outside the barn. I might need it for the pigs." Jonathan commanded.
Clark stopped smiling and looked at Jonathan with an annoyed face, "Seriously?"
"Yes, I'm serious." Jonathan replied, smiling. He loved watching his son work, "Now go Clark, you would be done by now if you moved five seconds ago."
Jonathan felt a burst of wind hitting his face then saw that Clark wasn't standing next to him anymore. He then saw that a haystack was right outside the barn, in front of his feet. Jonathan looked behind his back to see Clark with his hands on his hips, smiling again.
"That was too easy." Clark laughed, "You call that work?"
Jonathan put his arm around his son's shoulder, "Thank you, Clark."
"You're welcome Pa." Clark replied, happy that he was able to help his Pa.
"That would've taken me two hours to move." Jonathan stated as him and his son walked back inside the house.
"I know that." Clark said as he heard a scream of a young girl coming from the cornfields. Clark had no idea how he heard the young girl scream but he knew something was wrong.
Clark ran to the cornfields to find a red haired girl, who was his age, tangled in a weed, struggling to get free. A green cutter machine about to run over the young girl. The green cutter machine was about twenty feet long and was unmanned. It was a newer version, this version didn't require anyone to pilot it and would detassel the cornfields on it's own.
Clark ran and shielded the girl from the cutter and it hit Clark instead of the girl. The cutter didn't hurt Clark, instead it split in half as it tried to run Clark and the girl over. Once the cutter was broken, Clark ripped the weed off of the girl and looked at her. He knew who she was, she was Lana Lang. Their parents had worked together often. Lana always came over because her father always worked with Jonathan. Clark then looked at his blue shirt which was all torn up.
"Look Lana, I'm invisible!" Clark told Lana as she looked at him in shock. "Lana, are you okay?"
"Yes Clark, I'm- I'm just surprised." Lana answered.
Jonathan ran over to Clark and Lana to find that they were okay and a broken cutter. Jonathan hugged Clark, almost in tears that he was okay. He saw Clark protect Lana from a hundred feet away.
"Oh Clark, thank God you're okay." Jonathan told his son, still hugging him, "You- you can't run off like that. You can't scare me or your mother like that. I can't lose you son, we can't lose you."
