Chapter 37

Stand for Something

LexCorp Business Building

Lana Lang was paralyzed from the waist down. She knew Lex Luthor since she was young. They didn't talk much since, Lex was anti social, but they knew each other. When Lana had been paralyzed at the circus, Lex always felt the need to help, especially since Clark Kent, her ex boyfriend left her.

Lana wasn't married. She hadn't dated anyone since Clark. It had been hard for her to find a job and she was living with her parents. No one wanted her to work for their company because of her disability. Lex, however, had something special for her. Lana rolled into Lex's office on a wheelchair. She still had her legs, they just didn't work.

"Lex, I haven't seen you in a long time. How's everything been?" Lana asked, kindly. Lex remembered how kind Lana was, everyone loved her.

"Oh, it's been going well. My company's been built up from the ground and all..." Lex bragged about his achievements.

"I presume you didn't call me to Metropolis just to catch up. Do you need anything?" Lana wondered, dazing at Lex in her wheelchair.

The wheelchair was cheap, older. Lana clearly didn't have a lot of money.

"Well, there's a project my scientists have been working on, Project CYBORG." Lex informed Lana. "We have a suit, it'll help you walk again but not only that, it'll make you a superhuman. You'll have miraculous  strengths. You'll be able to become a hero, you'll inspire people. You show them that someone who doesn't have the use of their legs can be exactly- exactly like Superman."

"Why me? Why not somebody who doesn't have a disability?" Lana questioned, curiously.

"Our suit was built specifically for the disabled. It originally wasn't supposed to be an super powered enhancing suit but I made some minor justifications." Lex stated, proudly. "Lana, please, I personally chose you because you were strong and you would trust me. This will help you stand for something, something great."

"I-I don't know what to say... I want to do this but is this asking too much?" Lana was generous, she didn't want a lot from Lex.

"I'm a billionaire, of course it's not too much." Lex smiled.

"I can't turn this down then. What do I have to do?" Lana was eager to get started.

"Come by tomorrow around lunch time. This is a painless process. You won't feel even a pinch." Lex told Lana, ensuring that she'd come.

"I'll be here..." Lana started to walk out the door. "Thank you Lex. It really does mean a lot."

"You're welcome Lana." Lex smiled deviously.
