Chapter 22
Break Up
Smallville, Kansas
Clark walked to school to find Lana sitting in her wheelchair, talking to her friends. He had arrived thirty minutes early. Once Lana saw Clark, she rolled right up to him, immediately. Clark greeted her and asked that they would talk in private. Clark and Lana headed to a corner of the school where nobody hung out at and spoke with one another.
"Lana, I'm sorry I could save you from the falling piece of debris." Clark apologized as he started off speaking.
"It's not your fault Clark. None of this was your fault." Lana replied, humbled.
"But Lana, I could've saved you. And if it weren't for me, those people wouldn't have been here." Clark informed Lana.
"What are you talking about?" Lana asked, confused.
"Those were my friends from the future. It sounds stupid, I know but it's true. They wouldn't have been there if it weren't me. I don't know what was going on but I know I can't let it happen again." Clark paused and sighed, "I can't stay in this relationship anymore Lana, for your safety."
"You're not endangering me Clark." Lana replied.
"But I am. You're paralyzed because of me. Worse things could've happened and I don't want them to happened to you. Lana, I'm sorry but I care and I want you to stay safe." Clark stated.
"I-I understand." Lana stuttered.
Clark walked away to a tree where nobody hung out as Lana went back to her friends. Clark stared at the ground and eventually fell on his knees, wishing he was normal and human.
