Chapter 28
Daily Planet
The Daily Planet
Clark walked inside the Daily Planet main entrance to find dozens of people walking around. This was only the main floor, there were probably over five hundred people in the building. Clark looked at what the people were doing, they were getting coffee, typing up reports, or eating lunch.
A red haired teenager walked up to Clark. "You look like you're new." The young teen told Clark. "I know almost everyone who works here and I haven't seen your face before."
"Well, you're right, I'm new." Clark replied.
The young boy put his hand out signaling Clark to shake it, "The name's Jimmy Olsen. I'm an intern here and I turn in any pictures I take..."
"Nice to meet your Jimmy, I'm Clark, Clark Kent. Do you know where I can find Perry White?" Clark asked kindly. Perry White was the Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Planet.
"Yeah, I making a coffee run for him right now, I'll lead you to him, just let me pick up his coffee really quick." Jimmy told Clark as he ran to the cafeteria and ran back with a black coffee.
Clark followed Jimmy to the elevator located at the south side of the room. When they arrived in the elevator, Jimmy pressed the 52th floor button.
"Gee, all the way up?" Clark said gritting his teeth.
"Yeah but luckily, I know this 'life hack' that skips the floors of the people who are waiting." Jimm stated proudly, "You hold the button that closes the door while you press the button that leads to the floor you want to go to. I hear police officers use it when they're in a hurry."
"Thanks for the info, Jimmy." Clark thanked Jimmy.
"No problem. I give out all the help I can here, especially if Mr. White's pissed off." Jimmy told Clark.
"Why would Perry be mad?" Clark asked Jimmy, confused.
"Well, it's kinda a secret but the Daily Planet is going bankrupt, that's why the globe at the top of the building doesn't spin anymore. This stresses the hell out of Mr. White and puts him in a bad mood." Jimmy explained.
Clark and Jimmy arrived at the 52nd floor and they both headed to Perry White's office. They walked passed multiple work cubicles. Perry White was sitting at his large, wooden desk, editing a paper. Perry was a taller man, he was beefy too. He looked like he was in his mid fifties. An African American man was standing next to him. Perry seemed mad.
"What do you mean Luthor is trying to shut us down, Troupe!?" Perry screamed at the man.
"Sir, Mr. Luthor is well, annoyed, to say the least, with our last article we published about him." The man replied to Perry. "I recommend we write an apology in the next Sunday paper... Luthor's powerful..."
"I'm not writing any damn apology! It's the truth! There are child slaves working for LexCorp in the Middle East!" Perry shouted, "Get out of my damn sight Troupe, I'm pissed off."
The man left Perry's office and Clark and Jimmy stepped forward. Jimmy handed Perry his black coffee and Perry stared at Clark, "You must be the new guy." Perry stated.
"I am, sir." Clark nodded.
"Clark Kent, right?" Perry wondered about Clark's name.
"Yessir." Clark told Perry.
"Welcome to the Planet, Kent." Perry greeted Clark, "You work in current events right?" Clark nodded, "Well, I have a job for you..." Perry looked out the door, "Lane, get in here!"
A lovely, black haired woman walked in. She was wearing a red t-shirt and blue jeans but reveal parts of her midriff.
"What do you want Perry?" The woman asked.
"This is Lois Lane." Perry told Clark, "Lois, meet Clark Kent. He's going to be replacing Gil Friesen now that he's defected to the Daily Star." Clark recognized Lois, she had won a Pulitzer back in June.
Clark put his hand out and smiled to shake Lois' hand, however Lois didn't shake it. "New competition, Perry?"
"She's nicer when you get to know her." Perry told Clark. "And no Lois, he's a new coworker, not completion."
"Whatever." Lois grunted.
"I need you two to go to the LexCorp Building, Lex Luthor is holding a rally there, find out what it's all about." Perry ordered.
Clark knew Lex Luthor, they had met when they were still young, he was ruthless and wanted to desperately get out of Smallville. He wanted to make a living in Meteopolis. It looks like he did more than succeed.
Perry turned to Jimmy, "And Jamie! Where are my two sugars!?"
"It's Jimmy, sir..." Jimmy corrected.
"It'll be 'I need a new job' if you don't get me my sugars!" Perry screamed.
Lois signaled Clark to come with her and Clark followed. "Come on, Clark. You gotta keep up if you want to make it here in Metropolis."
