Emma woke up first the next morning. Her hand still latched to Killian's. She caught sight of a sign that pointed the directions to the next rest stop. She started the car and drove off, getting even closer to Storybrooke with every mile.

By the time Killian woke up, Emma was pulling into the parking lot of the rest stop. He yawned and groaned as he stretched. Emma met his gaze through the mirror and giggled at his hair.

"Good morning, sleepyhead." She said turning around in the seat to kiss him sweetly.

"Morning." He moaned when they pulled apart.

"I drove us to a rest stop where we can get food before we had off again."

"Perfect." Killian ran his hands through his hair to tame it and got out of the car. Emma following him into the building.

"I'll get some breakfast and then meet you back at the car?" She suggested and he nodded. They kissed and went off in separate directions.

Killian went to the bathroom and then got some drinks and snacks from the vending machines before going back to the car. He pulled out his phone to track the distance left to Storybrooke.

Emma went to the McDonald's that was in the building and ordered breakfast. As she was walking out with the bag and the drink carrier, a man stopped in her path. He had blonde hair and brown eyes. His clothes were wrinkled and his hair was greasy.

"My, my, my. Aren't you a pretty one?" He backed her up into a dark corner and away from the other people.

"Get away from me." She said, hoping that the waver in her voice wasn't noticeable.

"Why would I do that when you can give us both what we need?" He stroked the back of his hand on her cheek. She turned her head to pull away from him. "Cmon, I know you want it." He pressed his lips to hers.

Emma didn't kiss back. He was trying to gain access of her mouth, but she wasn't going to let herself become more of a victim. She pushed the coffee on him and he pulled back with a groan of pain. Emma darted past him, leaving hers and Killian's breakfast and coffee on the floor.

"Oh you little bitch!" He yelled and chased after her.

Emma ran to the parking lot and quickly spotted Killian's car. She heard the running footsteps of the man behind her, so she made a mad dash to the car. She got in and gripped Killian's shirt for dear life.

"Swan? What's wrong?" He asked.

"H-h-he's trying to get me." She choked out.

"Who?" Killian's question was answered when a pounding was heard on the window on Emma's side. He looked up at the dirty man and got out of the car.

"How can I help you, mate?" He asked with a sickening grin on his face.

"I need to speak to that woman." The blonde haired guy said, pointing to Emma who was hiding her face.

"Why would you need to speak to my girlfriend?"

"I uh- bumped into her and spilled her breakfast. I wanted to buy her more."

Killian nodded. "Hop into the back and we can get something to eat."

The blonde guy got into the backseat, and Emma jumped out of the car as if it were filled with thousands of fire ants.

"What are you doing?" She asked, fear lacing her words.

Killian got into the passengers side without answering her question. "Emma, dear, I'll give you directions to the nearest diner. This man wants to apologize for bumping into you and spilling our breakfast. He's offered to buy us more." He glanced at Emma with a look on his face that said 'just trust me.'

She started up the car and drove out of the parking lot, and onto the highway. Killian gave her directions to a small town that had a diner that he claimed had the best food he had ever had. They were rolling down the road when he suddenly yelled, "Stop."

Emma pulled the car over. They were in the middle of a field. No one was around for miles, and she knew what he was going to do.

"Get out of the car!" Killian yelled to the man. He turned to Emma. "This will only be a minute. Stay in here, no matter what." He got out and pulled out his gun that he had in the back of his pants.

"W-what are you g-gonna do?" The blonde haired man asked and held his hands up as Killian pointed the gun at him.

"You see, I am very protective of my woman. And do you know how it makes me feel when I can't protect her? It makes me feel like a failure. So when she came back to my car telling me that someone was going to hurt her, I knew I had to hurt them." Killian said and cocked the gun.

"P-please don't."

"Oh, but, don't you see? I have no choice. I'm very good at what I do. So, you can live the rest of your life knowing that your killer won't be caught. Ever. But I guess in your case, it won't be very long now."

"Killian, don't do this." Emma said.

"Damn it, Swan! I told you to stay in the bloody car!" Killian yelled over his shoulder.

"You can't kill him."

"Turn away now, Emma. Cause I'm going to do it." And then, the gun fired. The blonde haired man fell to the ground. His eyes still open as blood seeped through the single bullet hole in the center of his forehead.

The gun was still in his hands as Killian turned around. A blank expression on his face. Emma stepped backwards and ran to the car. She shut the door and locked all the doors, which unlocked almost immediately. She turned back to the window and jumped as she saw Killian holding his set of the car keys, which had a remote that could lock and unlock the car. He got in on the drivers side and started it up, quickly getting back onto the highway. Emma held her gaze on the window, watching the scenery pass by as they drove.
