Boyfriend Stealer

Chapter 3

Codie and Madison survive their first day of high school and are very happy to be home. Codie is welcomed by her parents, little sister, and older brother. Her parents names are Laurie and Steve, her sister's name is Sarah, and her brother's name is Chris. She then goes to her room and gets on her computer, while petting her dog, a Puggle named Buddy. He's two and Codie has had him since he was just a pup. She loves Buddy so much and would do anything just for him. She gets off her computer and whistles to Buddy, who runs over to her, tail wagging and starts licking her face. Codie giggles and scratches him behind the ears and under the chin.

She sniffs the air and says, "Ew, Buddy you need a bath, immediately. C'mon, let's go get the tub ready for you." Buddy perks up his ears and follows Codie into the bathroom. She starts filling the tub up with water and grabs the doggie shampoo.

Her mom peaks her head in and asks, "Giving your stinky dog a bath finally?"

Codie rolls her eyes at her mom, and says, "Yes, yes I am. Would you I rather not?"

Her mom laughs and says, "No, it's fine, sweetie, we'll be having dinner in an hour or so. Please be cleaned up by then."

"Okay, thanks, mom." Codie says, as she stops the water and whistles to Buddy, who looks at her, then at the water, and then starts to run off. "No, Buddy, come back here, you love baths. Buddy!" Codie chases after her dog.

As she rounds the corner, she almost bumps into Chris, who's holding Buddy. Codie grabs the whining dog from him and says, "Thanks, Chris, you're the best."

"You're welcome, no problem."

Codie goes back to the bathroom with Buddy, closing the door tightly behind her so Buddy can't get out this time. She puts him in the tub and wets him down with lots of water. She starts scrubbing the shampoo into his fur, about five minutes later. After that, she rinses him off and turns the water off. He shakes, getting her all wet. "Hey! Watch it!" She giggles and sighs. She takes Buddy out of the tub and starts drying him off, while he still keeps shaking to get the water off, making Codie laugh a little. She then puts his collar in her bedroom since he's still kind of wet and puts him outside to dry in the sun. Then, Codie goes back inside and changes into some dry clothes and then tosses the wet towels and clothes into the laundry. She checks her phone and sees she missed a call from Madison. She quickly calls her back.

"Hi."

"Hey, Madi, I saw I missed your call. Sorry, I was giving Buddy a bath. So what's up?"

"It's okay, I understand, so I was wondering if you wanted to go to the mall this weekend?"

"Yes! You know you don't have to ask me twice! Let me check with my parents, first, though, and I'll let you know."

"Cool! Yeah, just give me a call back or let me know in school tomorrow."

Just then, Codie hears her mom yell "dinner!"

"Oh, Madi, I have to go, it's dinnertime, but yes, I'll let you know."

"Okay, enjoy dinner. Bye"

"Bye." Codie hangs up her phone and rushes out to the dining room, where her family is waiting. She sees that they're having ravioli for dinner, which is one of her favorites.

"Sorry for the wait, I was talking to Madison on the phone. Thanks for waiting." Codie says, as she sits down in her seat.

"No problem, sweetie." Her mom says, as she serves some ravioli to Codie.

"So how was your first day in prison?" Chris asks, as their mom glares at him.

"Chris, it's not prison, it's called high school." Laurie says, sternly.

Chris shrugs and says, "Same difference." This gets a glare from their dad, too.

"What? Sorry...." Chris says.

"So, how was it, sweetie?" Steve asks Codie, while eating his ravioli.

"It was great, Madi and I got to meet the cool kids and they seem to like us, especially Madi." Codie tells her parents.

"Good, I'm sure you and Madison will fit right in." Her mom smiles at her.

After dinner, Codie goes outside and checks on Buddy, who's almost completely dry, so she lets him back in the house. Buddy hurries over to his food bowl and starts woofing his dinner down. Codie looks at him and says, "Remember to chew before you swallow, Buddy."

Her mom laughs at this and says, "I don't think he knows what 'chew' means." Codie laughs at her mom's joke and goes to her bedroom.

Madison checks her phone again to see if Codie has called or texted, but there's nothing. Her seven-year-old Border Collie, Skye, comes in and licks her hands. Madison smiles at Skye and scratches her behind the ears. Then, Skye rolls over on her back and begs Madison for a belly rub. Madison says, "How can I say no?" And starts rubbing and scratching Skye's belly, who lays there, happily, with her tongue hanging out. Madison lives with her Aunt Christa, because her parents are divorced. Last she heard, her dad was in prison and her mom was in a mental hospital. She doesn't have any siblings, either, her parents decided to have another kid, but it died before it was born. Luckily, they were able to save her mom. Poor Madison doesn't have it easy and only Codie knows about this.

Aunt Christa peaks her head in the door and says, "Dinnertime, sweetie. Ahhh, how sweet, Skye is a real big softie." Madison looks up at her and smiles.

"I'll be there in a few, Aunt Christa." Madison continues to scratch Skye's belly and then gets up with Skye following her out her bedroom door. Madison goes to the pantry, grabs the bag of dog food, and pours some into Skye's bowl, who lays down and starts eating immediately. Madison goes to the table and sits down next to her aunt. She looks at the table and sees that they're eating Chinese takeout. They eat and talk a little; after Skye is done eating, she goes and lays beneath Madison's chair, waiting for something to drop. While her aunt is distracted, Madison sneaks Skye a piece of beef and a piece of orange chicken. She helps her aunt clear the table, after dinner, then goes to her bedroom, while Skye goes outside to do her business.
