Codie flops on her bed, wondering what her parents are afraid to tell her. She pets Clem behind the ears and she licks Codie' s face. She giggles a little, but goes back to wondering. She picks up the picture and looks at it again. A tear trickles down her cheek, but Clem licks it away and Codie gives the puppy a small smile. Buddy jumps up on the bed and lays next to her, on the other side of her.
Just then, she hears her parents coming up the stairs and braces herself for the news. She pets both dogs and holds the picture close. Her parents arrive in her doorway and stop, giving her worried looks.
"What's wrong?" Codie immediately asks.
"You tell her, Steve." Her mom says, as she sits next to Codie on the bed.
"Alright, Codie your brother is in the hospital."
"What?!!? How?? What happened?!!?" Codie spits out questions, very worried.
She starts crying and her mom comforts and hugs her, telling her it will be alright.
"Well, it looks like there was an accident at the skate park. Chris has injured his wrist and his leg. We think he fell off his skateboard." Steve tells her.
"Oh." Codie sobs.
"Dont worry, sweetie, it's going to be okay. Chris just has to recover and it's going to take some time." Her mom tells her as she gives her another hug.
"We're going to see him later today." Her mom says, as she gives Codie another big hug.
"Can I please come with?" Codie asks, as she wipes some tears away.
"Sorry, sweetie they don't allow younger children in the hospital. You have to be at least sixteen."
"That's stupid." Codie mutters.
"I know, sweetie. Don't worry, he'll be home in a week or so."

"Bye, sweetie!"
There's no response, so Laura heads upstairs and sees that Codie is sleeping on her bed with Clementine resting her head on Codie's shoulder. She heads back downstairs, as quietly as possible.
They arrive at the hospital, about half an hour later, and immediately head to Chris' room. He asks about Codie, right away, and they tell him that she's sad, but doing okay. Chris begs them to take him home, but they tell him he has to wait until the doctors let him go. He gets frustrated and starts yelling. Steve and Laura leave, heading to the hospital's cafe to have some coffee.
