Chapter 45: Beginning Steps

Kat's POV:

"I just want to thank each of you again. I also have a few questions, Jeremiah how many pups under the age of 5 were there in the pack?"

"There were 7 total, but of those only 4 of them lack a wolf right now. I'm assuming that's why you're asking, to know how much blood we'll need for the others before tonight to make it quicker."

"Yes, it is. I would like to go ahead and do that now. Also Cain, Johnny, and Thomas, I am not expecting any trouble tonight but I would like you three to run a perimeter before we begin and keep an eye and ear out. Jenny, same goes for you but within the perimeter. Thank you again. I'll see you guys in a little while, Jenny see you upstairs."

I watch as they all respond with 'yes Alpha' before bowing and heading out. I look over at Michael and notice that he's watching Jeremiah with guarded eyes and a clenched jaw as Jeremiah gets out a syringe and several small blood containers. I sit down on his office chair as Jeremiah begins to sterilize everything and turn my attention to Storm and Maria. I notice Maria texting and decide to just wait rather than interrupt, it doesn't take long because she's already done.

"Kat?"

"Yes Maria."

"Do you know a Lilly O'Conner by any chance?"

"No I don't think--yes, yes I think I know her dad, did she contact you?"

"Yes, she contacted me a few days ago and I let her know about tonight because she is a pack less wolf. She's wanting to come tonight, her dad as well. May he sit with me if she joins your pack?"

"Yes, of course. If the Elders present or pack members give you grief tell him to display his mark and tell them to come to me with complaints."

"Thank you Alpha."

"Maria, before you go I would like to talk to you and Storm together. You two are our Outside Allies, but Storm they may not accept you as easily. It always takes longer for outsiders to be welcomed willingly. Maria's family took three generations, but it may also be because you are a mutant. For that I must apologize, I have not given you an easy job by any means. I have also made this school a place where lou garous may come for help and guidance from both you and me. For that I am sorry. However, I can say that Maria is an excellent one to learn from about our history and culture, so any questions you have, simply ask her and she will help you."

"Thank you Kat, it is an honor to be chosen to serve as a council member. Thank you for your trust, I will do my best in the job."

"Thank you both, I'll see you both upstairs later. Maria, you can start filling her in on tonight I suppose and perhaps introduce Alice to her."

I watch as Maria smiles and bows, with Storm mimicking her motions before leaving the room. I turn back toward Jeremiah and notice that he's ready to draw some blood now. I motion to Michael to come closer so I can hold his hand, more so for his comfort than mine. I do like to be touching link though. Me too girl, me too.

"Why is this necessary love?"

"Lou garous without a wolf can't heal as fast as they can with a wolf. The younger ones who haven't gotten their wolf yet will be given some of my blood mixed with milk after I cut their hand to heal them. It's making a promise to their parents to protect their children from pain now and in the future."

I watch as he nods and then winces as Jeremiah begins to draw blood. Silly link, this is nothing. Seriously though, compared to our track record this really is a walk in the park. Jeremiah has finished drawing the blood in a manner of seconds and I watch as the small puncture mark closes itself.
