Michael's POV:
I hope she likes the restaurant choice. I don't know why I didn't think of it first, its the perfect place. Not too formal but nice enough to count as a date. I wonder if she will open up to me more tonight. I know I should be patient but I can't help but want to know more about her. Everything about her really. I finish grading the papers that Storm needed help with, along with the rest of the upper classes English assignments that were due back Friday, thank God Storm's was just a worksheet because it's almost time to leave for the date.
KNOCK.KNOCK.KNOCK.
"Door's open! Come on in."
"Michael, sorry to interrupt what you are doing, but I have a few things that I need you to do for me in Rochester while Kat does whatever she needs to."
"What? I mean, yeah I guess I can but I was kind of hoping to stay with her so she wouldn't try to run away while still injured. But if you think that is a good idea to leave her alone then I guess I don't have an option do I?"
"I have just had a long chat with her in the garden, she won't leave I promise. But she will need to be left alone for an hour or two in Rochester in order for her to stay with us."
"She talked to you.......about her past?"
"Yes, for a solid two hours I would say. I can promise you that she will not leave."
I can feel my heart break knowing that she didn't trust me enough to talk to me about her past, about who is she is. But she trusted the professor?? That doesn't make any sense, I mean I thought she hated the professor, she hated him last night anyway. It just doesn't make any sense, what could have changed her mind about him so quickly?
"Why.....why did she decide to talk to you? Why not me? I mean we talked last night but she didn't really even open up to me. Why did she open up to you? She hates you!"
"Michael, calm down. She will tell you when she is ready. It is her past and her secrets to tell, not mine. She only told me as an insurance policy of sorts to make sure that no one gets hurt while she is here. She cares deeply for you, but she will have a hard time opening up to you about everything in her past. You must give her time and you must not pressure her into telling you before she is ready. Do you understand?"
"Yes, I suppose I do but why wouldn't she trust me if she cares about me? I care about her too, I mean I love her. Why can't I be trusted, why doesn't she trust me?"
"Michael......she doesn't want you to get hurt but I think she is also afraid of you hurting her."
"I would never-"
"Michael I do not mean physically! I mean emotionally. She is afraid that you have the power to break her heart. I know you will do everything in your power not to do that, but she doesn't know that for certain yet. She is afraid of the feelings that she has for you Michael."
"Then what do I do to make her unafraid Professor?"
"Show her how caring and loving you are, and do not force her to tell you something she is not ready to tell you. There are few people that are unafraid to be in love without encouragement, so simply show her your love and be encouraging no matter what her feelings may be."
I nod my head knowing that once again he is right. He pats my shoulder as he turns to leave the room. I glance at my watch and realize that it's already 3 o'clock. I grab my coat and my keys and head to the front of the house just as she walks around the corner of the house. I still feel hurt that she thinks I'll break her heart, but when she smiles at me I can feel myself melt and can't help but smile right back at her.
