Chapter 25: Getting the story straight

JESS'S P.O.V
"Who is it?" I walked over to the door. "Police, open up!" Lisa came over to back me up. "I'm sorry sir did you have a visit booked?" I rolled my eyes and opened the door slowly. "Can I help you...?"
"We'd like a word with Jason."
"Sorry sir there's no Jason here..."
"Lisa shut up." I let the police come in and watched them walk over to Jason. The agent sat on a chair. "What happened here McCann?" Before Jason went to speak, I butted in. "He saved my life!" The agent looked up at me. "Saved you?" I nodded. "And how did he save you?"
"Well... a guy tried to kinap me and Jason fought him off and the guy punched him in the stomach..." The agent had a shocked look on his face. "McCann actually saved you?" I nodded again. "If it wasn't for him I think I'd be dead by now..." Jason looked over at me, giving me a smile. "Honestly, Jason's not here to hurt anyone..."
"If it's okay with you, I'd like to have a talk with Jason in private."
"Oh... sure." I grabbed lisa by the arm, walking out and closing the door.

JASON'S P.O.V
"So McCann. Saved someone's life for once?" I ignored him, looking down at my stomach. "You're still going to prison!" I looked up at him.
"Why?"
"Why? You've killed innocent lives." I shook my head. How was I gonna tell them the truth, when he'll think the truth is a lie... "Why'd you do it Jason? Come on. You're only young. Must've been a good reason..."
"It wasn't me..." I looked down.
"What do you mean it wasn't you?"
"I promised not to tell..."
"Come on Jason I'm here to help you." I shook my head. "If it wasn't you, who was it?"
"I can't tell you!"
"Well if you can't tell me I'm just going to assume it was you and you'll be going to prison for a very long time." I looked down thinking of how to say it without sounding like it was a lie. "It was my friend..."
"Who's your friend Jason...?"
"Johnson... he took me in after my brother got killed..."
"He did your dirty work?" I paused for a few seconds. "Yeah..."
"And where is he now?"
"Dead..."
"So you made an innocent man kill people."
"No! Johnson was my brother's friend! He wanted to get revenge! I just had to follow him because he was looking after me!"
"So he didn't do your dirty work?"
"Yes but... I never wanted to kill anyone..." The agent nodded.
"What about the young girl you kidnapped?"
"Wasn't my idea..."
"How do I know what you're saying is true?"
"It's because it is." I looked over at Jess who came into the room. "Jason never killed anyone... he's innocent. It was all Johnson..." The agent stood up walking over to Jess. "May I talk to you alone?" Jess looked at me, I nodded at her. The agent walked her out.

JESS'S P.O.V
The agent walked me into an empty room. We both sat down facing each other. "Jason kidnapped you, yes?"
"No. Johnson did."
"So Jason didn't harm anyone? Apparently the explosion at a cops funeral was all him."
"No, that was Johnson too... I mean, Jason wanted to but he couldn't. He didn't wanna do a thing like that... Johnson did it..." He looked at me in complete confusion. "It says on Jason's file, he-"
"Jason's file is all wrong! He's completely innocent! He told me everything... he protected me while I was his hostage... he protected me..."
"Where's this Johnson now...?" I sighed looking down. "He got shot in the chest by an officer... he died..." The agent nodded his head. "Jason took the blame for Johnson's doings... because I guess he couldn't lose Johnson like he lost his brother."
"I see..."
"Please don't send him to prison. He's innocent..."
"But we need real proof."
"Real proof?! I'm still alive! He didn't hurt me, he saved my life!!"
"That's not enough proof..." I sighed. "I'd do anything to prove his innocence..."
"You'll have to go through court..."
"And if he wins the case he's be free right?" The agent nodded. I looked down. "But we need Johnson but he's dead... so how is he going to confess?!" "Jason will confess. You can be his back up." I sighed.


"If he wasn't innocent I would've been dead by now..."
"Yes well... we'll let the judge decide that. As soon as he gets out of hospital, we'll file a court case."
"Thank you..."
"But when he gets out we'll have to hold him in a cell..." I shook my head. "No! You can't take him away from me!"
"You'll see him in court..." I started to cry. "For now you can go back and sit with him. I got up, walking back to Jason's hospital room. I sat back down on the chair. "What did you say...?" Jason looked at me. I tried fighting back tears. "They're gonna take you awsy from me again when you get out of hospital...."
"What do you mean...?"
"You're going to court... when you get out of here they're gonna hold you in an isolation cell until court day..." Jason looked down. "Oh..." I couldn't believe this. Jason was gonna be taken away from me again. It could be months till a court day is planned... And when the day came, he had to win, and I would make sure of that.
