Part 12

Evan’s POV

I sighed before walking up the driveway towards Calista’s door. You know, she didn’t even deserve this after locking me in a room yesterday. I had to break down the door and that cost me so much money!

As I got closer, I could sense her essence getting stronger, but the strange thing was, it wasn’t the essence of someone who is sick. I smirked to myself, I really had that much of an impact on her that she had to pretend to be sick? The ball was in my field, and I was going to play with it for as long as I could.

She pulled open the door, doing some sort of a twirling dance move before halting. The color draining from her face.

“Well, someone’s looking pretty lively for a sick person don’t you think? Anyway, Mrs.T said I should come over so we should work on the project. So lets go.”

I tried to stay unemotional as I watched the range of emotions appear so clearly on her features, but despite my efforts, a small smirk appeared on my lips. This was going to be easier than I thought. I became serious again and turned around. Walking back down her driveway.

“Why? W-”

I turned around, and was surprised to see Calista still standing frozen in the doorway. The unspoken words of her sentence hanging on her lips. I stared at her, one eyebrow raised, practically daring her to continue. She took a few shallow breaths before starting again.

“W-”

Calista crumbled to the ground, her head in her hands. Quick as a flash I bolted so I was standing beside her. I could faintly her soft groans as she whispered out the rest of the words,

“Why is this happening to me? Why?! It’s not fair”

I knelt down and came as close as I could to her face,

“Because life sucks. That’s why. Now come on.”

Without another word, she glared at me then followed down the driveway.

I led her along a couple of random roads and she followed. Pfft. Obedient, just like a dog. I took a quick glance over my shoulder, only to see Calista having some sort of inner battle with herself. I snapped my head back around and sped up my pace slightly. She was definitely not normal. In fact, that was just downright disturbing.

***

I reached the grassy clearing I had been heading towards, and plopped myself down. Calista simply stood. Awkwardly glaring down at me. I smirked again and patted the spot beside me.

“Come sit. You’re blocking my sun.”

She let out a loud snort,

“Yeah, like you need sun Mr. Oh-so-tan-I-make-everyone-else-look-like-ghosts.”

Even so, she dropped herself down beside me, then shuffled about a meter away. I had to bite my tongue to stop the laughter that was threatening to burst out.

“Thanks. And even though you say that, I don’t need sun to stay tan. I just like it because it’s warm,”

“Hmm,”

We slipped into silence for a while as I contemplated my next move. After a little debate, I decided that the best way to keep the ball in my field (using the same expression as earlier) was to stun it so much that it had nowhere else to go. The silence lasted for a little while longer before I spoke up,

“So, it was kinda crazy about that whole bomb thing the other day right? How did you know it was gonna blow?”

Calista minutely pivoted away from me so I couldn’t see her face as she replied,

“I saw the bomb. Underneath the back table.”

“Well, that’s strange. I didn’t see it and I was sitting at the back table.”

I saw her shoulders visibly tense up as she raked through her brain for a new answer.

“Oh, d-did I say back table? I meant front table.”

“You know. I wasn’t actually sitting at the back table.”

She froze.  I stared at the back of her head so intensely that I knew she must have sensed it. The silence overlapped us again as I allowed her to fight within herself. Finally, she answered.

“Oh, yeah well-”

“Give it up will you. I know your secret.”

That sparked her interest, because she spun around and stared at me. Her mouth hanging slightly ajar.

“W-whaa?”

I scooted close to her to intensify the moment.

“I know that you’re not normal. You can see things, right? The future and stuff.”

Calista went silent once again, before speaking in a voice so quiet I had to strain to hear.

“C-can you…can you do it too?”

“See things? Nope. But I’ll let you in on a little secret. I’m not exactly ‘normal’ either.”

She lifted her head to face me. Her golden brown eyes looked so innocent that I had to resist the urge to wrap her in my arms and comfort her. Wait…what?

“Is that how you knew? Is that how you knew about my secret? With your…power or whatever?”

Calista’s voice snapped my out of my confusion as I wondered how to respond to that question. Well, like they always say. The truth is always the best excuse.

“Yup. Don’t worry. Your secret’s still safe.”

Calista sighed and seemed to calm down a little as I lifted myself up. That was enough playing for one day. I began to make my way back home when Calista’s voice yelled out. Slightly nervous, but determined all the same.

“Wait!” she called out. “What about you? You admitted you weren’t normal, so what are you? What can you do?”

I stopped in my tracks, before smoothly turning around to face her. A smirk spreading across my face.

“Well, I’m me. And that’s all you need to know.”

Then, I walked away. Leaving her lying, openmouthed, on the grass.

***Author’s note: Told ya this chapter would be jucier! (Or at least I hope it was) Sorry for the long silence. In short, I got writers block, I lost my voice, then my electricity went out and…yeah. I just haven’t had a very inspiring life lately. :/ But what IS inspiring, is the dedication! This chapter is dedicated to…wait for it… Matt! Yes, you Matt. You know who you are, and if you don’t here’s a clue: Ur in the play as Pat. Now, if you’re not Matt, you probably think this is a pretty generic name. Well duh! I’m not giving all his personal information to you! Psyco stalker! (Joke joke. But…not really.)

Now Matt’s probably thinking, ‘Wow! Aissa is so amazing and awesome! She dedicated this chapter to me for no reason!” Well, it’s true that I am amazing and awesome, but its not for no reason. You actually really inspired me to continue writing & gave free advertizing. :D Also ur doing a gr8 job in the play, and I’m just that awesome so…yeah. :)

And his free advertizing is part of the reason why…

IM ON THE WHAT’S HOT LIST FOR PARANORMAL!!! WHOOP WHOOP!!!

Yeah, sure it’s only 353rd place. But I’m still on the list and that’s a really big achievement for me! So I just wanted to say thanks. Not only to Matt, but to everyone who is reading this. :D

Peace! Eat loads of chocolate!
