// Matt's POV \\
The people squealed like little girls and immediately hugged Matt tightly. ( of course, having to bend down to hug him. ) He was lifted off the ground by the bear hug, as the people yelled so quickly that he couldn't catch a word they were saying. He figured that these people were Sapphire's parents.
They put him down, Matt let out a pant. Ah, air.
"Matthew Blouse!" Sapphire's mother said. She was a slightly plump woman with blonde hair tied into a ponytail. Her smile seemed to grow wider every second.
Matt nodded slowly, smiling widely in reply. He saw Sapphire's father for a split second and noticed him staring at Matt straight in the eye. Matt hated it when people did that; it was like there were watching his every move.
Sapphire's father had a beard, with umber brown hair set loosely on the top of his head. The man held out a hand to Matt.
"Nice to meet you, Matthew!" He said loudly, which made his beard move. Matt tried to hold back his giggle. "I am Troy Fleeceback, and this is my wife, Loraine Fleeceback. Of course, call me Troy." Troy continued, as Matt shook his hand.
"You too... Troy. I'm very excited to be living here from now on. I thank you for offering to look after me!" Matt replied.
Loraine gently put a hand on Matt's head, ruffling up his hair. His brown frizzy hair fell over his eyes, and he could barely see. She laughed and put a hand on the boy's shoulder, leading him inside.
"Come on in, you little scallywag! Don't worry, all your video games have been given to us and we have set them up for you." Loraine boomed, sitting down on a nearby chair. Thanking her, Matt sat down too and admired the place around him. The room was nicely decorated with a green and white wallpaper, and shelves of cards, inspirational quotes, et cetera hung up everywhere. One of the quotes read:
'Close old doors, and open new ones.'
Matt wanted to throw up. He hated inspirational quotes. They were just trash, but in this family, he guessed that he's probably learn to change his opinion on them. Complimenting their home, Troy suddenly spoke up.
"So, I suppose you know our daughter, Sapphire?" He asked. Matt simply nodded in reply, swinging his legs off the chair and playing with the piercing in his left ear. Troy looked up, as if looking upstairs in the location where Sapphire's room was. "I thought so, she has told us all about you." This made Matt blush slightly. Was he really popular enough to be talked about to people's parents? ...what had she told them? He shrugged it off, exhaling a laugh and pretending to smile to make himself look polite. The room fell silent, so Matt spoke up.
"Where is Sapphire at the moment, may I ask?"
Loraine seemed to jump back to life at this.
"Oh, she is out buying food for us at the moment!"
The brunette teenager grinned and nodded again. "Oh right, thank you." Matt puffed out his cheeks and looked to one side, his bright blue eyes darting around the room, as if desperately looking for something to do. A clock ticked loudly, which made the situation more awkward. Matt came to a conclusion that everyone in the room was waiting for Sapphire to come home. Eventually, he reached towards the blue backpack that he had bought with him and zipped it open quietly, pulling out a sketchpad. Matt began to doodle aliens, skulls and object heads all over his page. He loved to draw object heads for barely any reason. They just appealed to him as 'cute'. Sapphire's parents must have noticed that he was bored when he whipped out his sketch pad, and they leaped in to help again.
"Oh, Matt! Your room is upstairs, by the way! for now, you will have to share a room with Saphy, but I'm sure it won't take long at all to set up everything in the empty room opposite it." Loraine explained, her pony tail flicking over her shoulder. At this, Matt got up and thanked them both before running up the stairs and going into a room which had a big, white door with photos, drawing and prints of famous people on them. He placed his bag on the floor next to Sapphire's bed, then proceeded to lie on the bed and stare at the ceiling. He stuck his tongue out in disgust as a waft of perfume filled his nose.
"Is that seriously what girls think is what smells nice?" He snorted, sitting up and pulling 'Lynx - Africa' deodorant out of his bag to spray it all around the room. Her room was painted pastel pink and white, but you could barely see the damn wall because it was covered in posters. After finally being satisfied with the smell, he pulled a sleeping bag out of his backpack and rolled it out on the floor, so he could sleep in it for later. Sapphire's room was surprisingly immaculate. Matt's old room just stank of weed and cigarettes, mixed with Lynx deodorant which he used to hide the stench. His floor used to be covered in random trash he would throw on the floor, for there was only one bin in his whole house, of which was normally full.
Matt got up and walked over to a white desk with stationary set nicely to the sides of it. Matt looked to one side and grinned, looking at a pink book that was filled with notes and things. Edging closer to the book, he grinned. This could be Sapphire's diary. Matt sniggered, picking up the book.
He opened the book, just as the door slammed open. He craned his head towards the door as his eyebrow's raised, it was Sapphire.
Matt immediately clutched the book to his chest guiltily.
Oh god.
