shawn's pov

i was sitting in my living room with a few of the guys from magcon and my girlfriend, lydia. we were hanging out and talking, reminiscing on old times when we were still grouped together, considering we all had just one day to catch up with each other. the guys insisted that lydia hang out with us, because they all loved her.

lydia was always a shy girl. she talked to the guys sometimes, but usually it was them who spoke first. lydia lost her hearing at a young age. she was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis and it grew severe, resulting in her hearing loss. we were both so young when it happened, so when i would say something to her and she wouldn't answer - rather then start to cry - i was confused.

she was against my side and my arm was wrapped around her waist, holding her secure to my body. she shifted, tearing my attention away from the guys and to her.

"i'm going to go get a bottle of water," she said softly, slipping out of my grip.

"okay," i smiled, kissing her forehead.

"guys, no pda," cameron said from beside me. lydia smiled. she must have read his lips because her cheeks flushed red before she scurried off into the kitchen.

"wouldn't it be cool if we did a couple dates sometime, you know, bring back old magcon?" aaron said, shifting in his position on the couch across from where i sat.

"that would be really cool," hayes said from across the room, nodding in agreement.

"if i can work it around my schedule that would be awesome," i said.

"is it weird dating Lydia?" nash piped up randomly, causing the room to fall quiet.

"no," i stated, "why would it be weird?"

"you know, she's deaf. she can't hear anything. she's never heard you sing before. i find that kind of weird that she is supporting you, even though she can't-"

"i'm not dating her for that reason, and the fact that she's deaf doesn't change anything. she doesn't have to know what i sound like when i sing to support me-" ever since high school, lydia was bullied for the fact that she was deaf. i have always been there when she couldn't defend herself and still today, when things like this happens, something flicks inside of me.

i told her i would always protect her.

"guys, i think you should stop," i heard taylor say, causing me to turn to the direction of his voice.

i instantly locked eyes with lydia, who was standing in the doorway with a shocked expression plastered on her face. my mouth fell open, and i watched as she looked from nash to me.

she read his lips..

she met eyes with me, and they were filled with tears. turning on her heel, she ran out the front door.

"way to go," i snapped, standing up and running out after her.

i opened the door the first thing i noticed was how hard it was raining. i looked around and seen her walking down the walkway. i couldn't yell out for her to stop, so i ran down the walkway and grabbed her wrist.
