amanda's pov

after a long time coming, tonight is the night shawn is performing at madison square garden in new york. along with his team, andrew flew out his parents, sister, and i, so we could be with him for his first performance this huge.

we were backstage, and an in-ear was being put into his ear. from where i stood, we could hear the heavy bass of his introduction playing. andrew approached him with his taylor guitar, and shawn swung it over his shoulder.

"you're going to crush this show," i assured, approaching him and wrapping my arms around him in a hug.

"i'm going to get crushed," he corrected, his frame shaking noticeably in my arms.

"shawn," i cooed, pulling away from him, "you're nervous." shawn has never let his nervousness show, so i was surprised.

he swallowed hard, nodding slowly. he brought his hands to my waist and laid them on my hips, resting his forehead against my shoulder, "there is twenty one thousand people out there, amanda, what if i mess up? or forget-"

"shut up," i leaned towards him and tilted his face upwards, pressing my lips to his. he let go of my hips and snaked his arms tightly around my waist. his lips moved against mine gently, before andrew intervened.

"okay, time to head under the stage," he said, causing shawn to pull away and lock eyes with the older man, "i can't do this. i can't, andrew."

"you can shawn," andrew assured, "you are freaked out about people noticing a screw up, but they are too excited to see you that they won't even notice."

"andrew's right," i said, taking his hand in mine, "they won't notice a thing. if they do, it's not like they are going to stop supporting you. you're human. listen to me. you can do this, hun."

"i can do this," he repeated unsurely, "i can, right?"

"you can," i nodded, offering assurance that i knew comforted him, "want me to come to starting point with you?"

"please," he nodded, allowing andrew to lead the way to where he started at centre stage. behind us, followed his four bandmates. eddie, dave, zubin, and mike noticed shawn's jitters and started cheering, reaching out and shoving his shoulders.

shawn chuckled, shaking his head gently as his fingers tightened around mine. i noticed him let loose a little, but the stress was still there.

we all walked down a long, narrow corridor that was dimly lit, meeting a security guard that instructed us to crouch down and crawl as we were going under the stage. for his entrance, he was climbing a small staircase and coming out centre stage. his band mates were to go first and he would follow after the jingle of 'theres nothing holding me back' played through.

shawn kept his hand around mine as we all crouched down and crawled to where the was an 'x' in bright yellow tape on the floor. once we got there, we were able to stand and remain unnoticed from the crowd.

the roar of fans was now very loud, and i had to yell for shawn to hear me, "you got this, i will be right up front next to the sound booths with your parents and aaliyah. they are already over there."

andrew handed shawn another in ear and he nodded, looking up the small entrance where lights were dancing around the sold out stadium. he looked back at me and i nodded, "i love you!"

"i love you too," he replied, and even though i couldn't hear him, i knew he said it. he found my hand again and pressed a kiss to the back.

"we're going to kill it!" zubin yelled, "this is the night where everything will only go up. you're making it big, bud!"

they quickly turned around and moved to the far corner to receive their in-ear's from a tour manager. while they did so, i quickly kissed shawn's cheek and smiled at him, "remember, just look at me when you get nervous!"

shawn nodded quickly, adjusting his guitar across his chest.

dave, eddie, zubin, and mike came back towards us, eager smiles on their faces. with their in-ears's in and ready, and the okay from a producer, they walked up the staircase two at a time.

at their presence, the crowd screamed louder.

"just do your best and everything will be fine!" andrew assured loudly, my hands now cupped over my ears in attempt to lessen the noise, "regardless we are proud of you!"

"good luck babe!" i exclaimed, prying his fingers off of mine.

with one last assuring nod from andrew and i, shawn stood up and slowly walked up the stairs.

i smiled uncontrollably at the raging screams that filled the auditorium. shawn approached the mic and almost immediately, started singing. the psecurity guard that led us here closed off the staircase and sealed the floor over, showing andrew and i out.

i couldn't help but feel giddy with pride over the fact that he was doing something he only ever dreamed of doing. andrew and shawn's guard lead us to the sound booth, were geoff was controlling the volume of each of the separate instruments and microphones.

i smiled upon seeing aaliyah, who was watching shawn on the stage. she looked over at me and smiled, gesturing me over.

"he's already doing so good!" she said over the screams.

"he has nothing to worry about," i agreed, watching him until he looked over at us. i wasn't sure if he was looking exactly at me, but if so, he held our gaze for a few seconds before directing it back to the crowd.

karen was undoubtedly crying, beyond proud of him for making it big.

i continued to watch him belt out song after song, a large smile pulling at his lips. soon, aaliyah and i were dancing playfully. we were all laughing, smiling, cheering, and singing, our hearts happy for him and his accomplishment.

to say i was just proud of him would be an understatement.

i couldn't put how i felt into words.

and when shawn looked at me and winked, his pearly whites showing vividly, i knew that he knew he was okay.
