shawn's pov

as i sat next to my sleeping girlfriend, isabelle, who was finally at peace since her recent four hours of labor, i glanced down at my newborn daughter, camille.

she was wrapped tightly in a soft, pink blanket and was sleeping soundly. she was only three pounds, but was born perfectly healthy. she had a small amount of brown hair on her head, which was the exact colour as mine. she had my nose and the rest was isabelle.

i have never believed people when they say that they fall in love with their child as soon as they are brought into the world, but now i realize that they are telling the truth.

i have never felt more in love than i do now, and i have been sitting in the same chair, in the same corner, holding camille for the last few hours that isabelle has been resting. bring only twenty two years old, isabelle and i's intention wasn't to be pregnant.

but honestly, it was the best thing that has ever happened to us.

camille's small eyes opened and she looked at me, trying her best to push her arms out of the blanket that consumed her body. smiling, i moved aside the blanket and she yawned, reaching forward with her small hand and grabbing ahold of my thumb. i smiled again, leaning forward and kissing her head. i brushed my other thumb across her cheek, causing her eyes to fall shut again.

i gently rocked her in my arms until she had fallen asleep again.

i didn't realize that i was crying until i seen a tear drop onto the material of my sweatpants that i threw on this morning when isabelle said she knew that the baby was coming.

i had waited so long to hold my daughter, to be a father, and now i was.

more tears left my eyes and i smiled, overjoyed with happiness.

"shawn?" i heard a voice whisper, causing me to look up and see isabelle now awake.

"hey honey," i whispered, "i didn't even know you were awake."

"i was watching you," isabelle said, causing me to smile, "she already loves you so much."

"she looks just like you, she's beautiful," i whispered, glancing down at camille.

after losing her mother to cancer, isabelle brought up naming the baby after her. i thought it was the best idea, because in a way, isabelle now has a small piece of her mother with her all the time.

isabelle smiled, "can i see her?"

"of course," i smiled, standing up and gently placing the baby in isabelle's arms.

she smiled, brushing her fingers across the top of camille's head. she squirmed, her eyes remaining closed. a tear fell down isabelle's cheek and i leaned forward, wiping it away. she looked at me with watery eyes, "she's perfect, shawn."

"now we have a perfect little family," i said, kissing her forehead.

"mom would be so excited right now, she always wanted to be a grandmother," she whispered, caressing camille's cheek.

"i bet she is so proud of you," i said, "and she's looking down at camille right now bragging to everyone about how adorable her granddaughter is." i leaned down, kissing isabelle's temple.

she grinned, "dad loves her. everyone loves her. i'm so happy."

"i am too, my love, the nurse came in earlier to check her vitals and i didn't want to give her up," i admitted, recalling how hard it was for me to place my daughter in the arms of a stranger.

"you won't ever leave, will you? we are all she has," isabelle whispered, looking up at me with teary eyes.

"i'll never leave you, love, never," i assured, rubbing the back of her hand with my thumb.

slowly, she slid over to the far left side of the bed and looked up at me, "lay down with me."

i smiled and slid in beside her, wrapping one of my arms around camille and kissing her head. isabelle smiled at me, biting her lip softly as if debating on weather or not to say what she wanted to.

"iseverything okay?" i asked her, running my hand through her brown hair, "are you in pain?"

"i know this was never the plan, to have a baby. do you think of it as a mistake?" she whispered, her voice unsure.

"i don't think of camille as a mistake, i think of her as a surprise," i said, looking down at idabelle.

"i love you, shawn," she said, her eyes fluttering.

"i love you too, more than you'll ever know," i said, leaning down and properly kissing her for the first time since camille arrived.

she kissed back, the feeling of her soft lips against mine driving me crazy. i pulled away and smiled, glancing down at my two girls. turning my full attention to camille, i whispered, "welcome to the world, little one."
