shawn's pov

today was finally the day that i would see my girlfriend, hannah, after she has been away for seven months. she got the opportunity to go on an exchange to columbia to school there, and she took it.

it was rough when she left, as her parents and little sister we're an emotional wreck.

i was too, but didn't cry because i knew if i did, she would too.

there was a whole group of students from my school who went to columbia, of course all of them going to different parts. they left together and are coming back together.

i remember when she arrived in columbia, she face-timed me crying. she gets homesick easily, and with anxiety, the two didn't go well together. she said that she wanted to come home and she didn't want to stay. that night, we face timed the whole night, even leaving the call on through the night while we slept. since canada is two hours ahead of columbia, i woke up before her. whispering that i loved her, i ended the call.

every night, she called me and we talked about each others days. not being able to see her in person for seven months almost killed me, but it was what she wanted and she was happy.

she eventually stopped getting panicked and homesick and felt more at ease. i was introduced to her host sister, mom and dad, and they we're all very nice.

i could tell she was getting close with all of them.

but now, as i stood in the airport, i thought of nothing other then the closed gate door. her flight landed ten minutes ago, and i was rocking on my heels. it took awhile for the passengers, pilots and flight attendants to get their luggage, which is why the gate remained shut for another five minutes. when the gate opened, though, my heart leapt to my throat. flight attendants and pilots spilled out immediately, walking elsewhere in the airport.

next up were all the passengers.

i seen a lady reunite with her daughter, a military boyfriend reunite with his girlfriend and an elderly couple hold each other in a hug, the man clutching a bundle of flowers in his hands.

smiling, i turned my attention back to the gate when a male voice echoed through the airport.

"everyone give a warm welcome to our students who exchanged to columbia!" the airport erupted into cheers, signs popping up in the crowd with names on them.

then, people started coming out of the gate. they were all wearing sweaters with the school logo on them, so i knew they were the students arriving from columbia.

they all scattered towards their family, dropping their bags and being tackled in hugs. i stood up on my tip toes and scanned the crowd, desperately looking for hannah.

then i seen her.

her brown hair was pulled into a ponytail and she had her carryon slung over her shoulders. she was walking along side her best friend, who shortly after gave her a hug and ran towards her family.

"there she is," i pointed in her direction and her parents were off.

she seen her mom first, and she threw her arms around her, resting her head on her shoulder. i seen shiny trails on her cheeks as she hugged her father, who kissed her head and held her tight. her dad took her bag and began to walk back in my direction.

when she seen me, she covered her mouth with her hands.

she didn't know i would be here.

i opened my arms and she ran towards me, jumping into them. her legs wrapped around my waist and her arms locked around my neck. i stumbled back, laughing.

"shawn!" she cried, her tears dampening my sweatshirt, "you're such a loser. you aren't sick!"

"i had to surprise you baby, i missed you so much," i mumbled, holding her close to me.

her legs unwrapped from my waist and she wrapped her arms around my torso, her head now resting against my chest. i wrapped my arms around her and laid my head on her shoulder, swaying her back and forth.

"never leave me for that long ever again," i whispered, hearing her giggle, "i almost flew to columbia."

"you don't know how much i missed you," she said, pulling away and looking at me.

"but honey, i missed you so much more," i whispered.

her arms remained around my torso and she looked up at me, waiting for me to say something.

i gripped her waist and quickly spun her around, earning another cute giggle from her. i gently grabbed her hips and pulled her close, taking the spare time to close any unwanted space that was between us by placing my lips on hers. she kissed back and i smiled, pulling away shortly after.

looking over her shoulder, i seen her parents standing there smiling. ismiled back at them and wrapped my arms around her again, knowing she was glad to be back at home with us.

when she pulled away, i noticed she was crying again. laughing, i swiped away her tears with my thumb.

"stop," i insisted, "you're going to make me cry."

she laughed, "i'm so jet-lagged and i just want sleep." she said, turning and facing her parents who already had her bags in their arms.

"We hurried to luggage claim and your bags were already on the belt. Ready to go home sweetpea?" her Mom asked as Hannah eagerly nodded her head. She tackled her Mom in another hug and they stumbled, not letting go of one another. I knew how close they were, also that Hannah missed both her parents very much. They pulled away and Hannah grabbed my hand.

Together, we walked out of the airport and to the car. Hannah and I climbed in the back and her parents got in the front. We pulled out of the parking space and I looked over at a very drowsy Hannah. She looked at me and I knew what she wanted. I nodded and she smiled, laying parallel across my lap. She put her head on my leg and shut her eyes. I ran my hands through her hair, knowing how much the gesture relaxed her. Soon, she fell asleep and I smiled. Her Mom turned in the passenger seat and smiled, "She really missed you, Shawn."

"I'm glad she's home," I said, as she turned back around.

The ride home was silent, the only sound being the quiet chatter between her parents and the soft hum of the radio. Her flight was early, she landed at six thirty and it was currently seven fifteen. The sun was just beginning to rise and I yawned, leaning my head against the window. My eyes grew heavy and before I knew it, I had fell asleep as well.
