haley's pov

five minutes passed and aaliyah was still very uncomfortable, making darell quick in crossing the ambulance. he reached into a shelf and pulled out a syringe and needle.

"if the pain is this intense then there is either a fracture in the bone or torn ligaments around the hip. i am going to give her this and it will kind of act as an anesthetic. it will put her to sleep and the pain will be gone," he said over aaliyah quiet cries, "she will be comfortable."

"okay," i nodded.

he grabbed her arm firmly and before she could react, put the needle in. i kept my hold on her hand, assuring her, "it's okay, liyah, just breathe."

"you know her?" he asked, nodding towards aaliyah

"she is my ex boyfriend's sister, and the other boy was my ex," i sighed as he held the needle in place, "i'm sorry. i know i am not supposed to let this affect my work, i mean, getting calls about family."

"no, you did great. how about you go find her brother, bring him back and he can come on the ambulance to the hospital. it will take a few minutes for this medicine to kick in anyway."

"okay," i nodded, getting out of the ambulance and scanning the park for shawn.

i seen lucy sitting on a bench with aaliyah's friend, an elderly couple by the pond, and a few kids playing on a play structure, but no shawn.

"damnit," i cursed quietly.

hearing his cries, i spun around and narrowed my gaze to a tree in which i assumed he was sitting behind.

walking over, sure enough, shawn was sitting with his back to the tree crying into his hands. i only ever seen him cry once, which made this even harder.

i put my personal life behind me and approached him, sitting beside him.

"shawn," i said, getting his attention.

"what?" he mumbled, wiping his tears.

"why are you crying?" i asked him.

"because this is my fault!" he threw his hands up, "i just got home from a two month tour and aaliyah missed me. she started to yell, saying how i-i was the worst brother for never being home for her, mum and dad, and ishouted back saying that she was the worst for not understanding that this is my job." he croaked, letting out a shaky breath before continuing, "hearing her scream in pain from the ambulance is killing me, because this is all my fault."

"well, she is not worried about that whatsoever, she was just concerned about you not accepting her apology. she loves you, and at this time needs her big brother," i said.

"will she be okay?" he asked meekly, wiping away his stream of tears with his sweatshirt sleeve.

"she will be just fine," i said, "a little sore but nothing major."

he pushed himself to his feet and so did i.

as i went to turn around, he grabbed my hand. turning me so i was facing him, his bloodshot brown eyes started into mine, "i miss you."
