We climbed through the murky black mirror one by one. As soon as all four of us were out of the mirror we made our way upstairs and to the front door. The feeling of dread was still lingering in the back of my mind and I knew we needed to get to the boys quickly.
"Mateus are you sure you won't need to go back for a while?" I questioned as we ran through the house.
"Nicholai, I've left others in charge for decades I'm sure Andrej can handle a couple of months." He laughed as we threw open the door.
Once outside we quickly decided that Mateus and Imani would drive to the pack house and Damien and I would shift and make it there as quickly as possible. In seconds, with a little pain, my bones shifted and feather sprouted where my arms used to be and I took to the air.
'I'll let you know if I see anything suspicious before you guys run straight into danger.' I told them through our mental link.
"Go." Was all Mateus said before I flew away seconds later.
The entire time we were in Mateus home I had gotten used to walking around with the wings behind me. Flying right now felt nice and right. I caught an updraft and coasted for a while before flapping my wings in an easy and simple rhythm.
I flew for about an hour as fast as I could until I came closer to the pack lands. Something didn't feel right and that scared me. Usually the woods would be filled with all sorts of little noises from the animals scurrying around below but it was silent.
'Something is definitely wrong here.' I told my mates.
I could feel that Damien wasn't far off from the pack land but I was already here and I was going to do some sort of investigating. I landed on a branch at the edge of the little hidden village and used my advanced senses to try and figure out what was going on.
In this form my eyesight was by far the best. Carefully I scanned the area closest to me and saw nothing out of the ordinary until something caught the sun and shined brightly enough for me to flinch away from the light that assaulted my eyes.
I fluttered down to a lower branch on a nearer tree and tried looking again. At this height there were a few other things that caught my eyes. What I had seen seconds before were metal chains that were lying on the ground. It looked like something or someone had been dragged through the dirt several times and in different directions.
My wings carried me back into the air as I kept to the outside edges of the village but tried to see as much as I could. As I flew closer and closer to the pack house a tightness in my chest seemed to grow at how much everything seemed to get worse.
My eyes surveyed the village and my heartbeat quickened. There were no signs that anyone was still down there. I wasn't sure if that was a good or bad thing. On one hand there was no one that we would have to fight but on the other hand that meant that the pack wasn't there either.
What was left of doors were knocked in and thrown to the ground as if someone had ripped them off the hinges in a fit of rage. In some places it looked like the walls were seconds from collapsing. The same dragging patterns that I had seen at the entrance of the village was present here but there were more of them.
