Chapter 9
Nicholai's POV
After sitting in the car on the side of the road for about fifteen minutes I made sure that nothing was darting across the street again as I pulled back onto the road. Mateus had been fairly supportive when it came to me freaking out about some random blur running across the road.
When I asked him if he knew what it might have been he got quiet for a minute before changing the subject. That happened maybe two times before I just gave up and stopped asking. Eventually I would find out so to me it was no big deal.
"Are you sure you're okay?"
"Yeah I promise I'm fine. Stop worrying so much."
"I can't help it..." he mumbled.
Shrugging my shoulders I turned on the high beams on the car to make sure that if anything, from a bunni to a bear, ran out into the road I wouldn't miss it. Slowly but surely I made my way out to the city that was closest to the house.
It was gorgeous. The lights from the distance shone brightly through the night like a million stars close to me. It reminded me of the night sky lit up beautifully. The closer we got the more I realized that this wasn't the same type of place that I grew up in.
Men, women and children walked along the street headed to unknown destinations as we drove by. Some stared into my car noticing that there was someone new in their city. It was funny watching their faces twist and contort in weird directions as expressions trying to see past the heavy tint on my car.
Listening to Mateus' directions we ended up in front of a barely lit park. There were old gas lamps lighting a path through the park and it somehow was romantic and scary all at once. Climbing out the car I waited as he slowly made his way out of my baby.
"So where to now?"
"Well we can walk through the par-"
"No."
"You don't like our park?"
"It looks like something out of a horror film to be honest." I said in the most polite way I could manage.
"Whatever. We can go eat if you want."
"Yeah that sounds good. What's out here to eat?"
"There's this one restaurant that's really amazing." There was something in voice that told me something was special about this place.
"Sure...I guess that would be okay."
"Great!" He said sounding amazingly happy for the first time ever since I met him.
Now that I think about it he probably had this planned the whole time. That would explain why he was wearing such a dressy outfit. He was trying to take me out to begin with. Looking over at him as we walked down the sidewalk I studied his features deeply.
