Chapter 26
Sighing heavily I dropped my tired body onto Imani's bed. No one else used this room and it showed. Everything was meticulously in its place and the whole room screamed control freak. He and Damien were downstairs doing research on this whole ultimate shifter thing and Mateus was with Declan and Owen who decided that they wanted to play hide-and-seek. It was funny to watch him stalk around this house looking for those two.
Burying my face into his pillow I inhaled his scent. It was very soothing because I felt like I was with him without being with him. My phone vibrated in my back pocket annoyingly. I honestly just wanted to relax and now here I was answering phone calls. Reaching behind me I slipped my fingers into my back pocket, digging out the phone. Sliding my fingers across the screen I raised it to my hear waiting a few seconds before answering.
“Hello?” I answered dryly.
“CHILDREN? REALLY?” My mother screamed from the other side of the phone causing me to hold it away from my ear, wincing in pain. My face fell back into the pillow as I held the phone away from my head.
“Mom…Just…Mom…” I sighed trying to get a word in as he just continued to repeat those same two words. Every so often I would try to put the phone back to my ear but it wasn’t working at all.
“When were you planning on telling me?” She asked her voice now sounding more cold and deadly than anything else. This was the moment that I feared most. She was calm and she had passed the screaming and obviously angry phase.
“I wanted to tell you personally mom and you know that any other time I would have consulted you but it was honestly just a spur of the minute kind of thing. When I heard these kids story it just broke my heart and I couldn’t think of anything else besides adopting them.” I pleaded with her. She didn’t say anything for almost a minute but then a soft sigh sounded from the other side.
“Well if the rest of your mates agreed with the whole adoption thing then I suppose it wasn’t a bad decision. I hope you realize that as soon as you’re gone from your little trip I’m coming over to meet my grandchildren.” She responded her voice sounding a little happier.
“Of course mom.” I replied with a soft smile on my face.
“And you know Aiden is going to go crazy when he sees them. Oh and don’t leave them alone with Aphros or Bythos, they tend to be horrible influences.” She mused.
“Yeah I know.” I told her. She probably sensed the sleepiness in my voice because she told me that she’d talk to me tomorrow. Dropping the phone on the bed next to me I rolled over onto my back, staring up at the ceiling. My mind was on this whole Ultimate Shifter thing and I wasn’t so much afraid as I was just tired of it all.
Closing my eyes slowly I was about to drift into a nice peaceful sleep when my phone began ringing again. Who the hell was calling me again? I just wanted to slow down for two seconds. Was that even possible anymore? Growling lowly I rolled over so that I could find my phone. Snatching it up I swiped my finger across the screen before answering rudely.
