You became calm for the next few days. You didn't fight the medications that the nurses were giving you. They helped you a little yet you didn't feel satisfied. You became depressed and tired. Just a couple hours ago, you were greeted by the Chief of Police along with your doctor. They constantly fed you information of how the fire started in the incident, and how it's kind of all your fault. At first, you were angered by it and tried to explain yourself but they said that there was no absolute evidence that could save you. They did not find a trace of foreign footprints in your room. There was no proof. What added more fuel to your fire was that the doctor assumed you were just "imagining things".
"I'm telling you, I did not start that fire! It was these weird people who broke into my house!!" You explained.
"Calm down, Ms. (Last).--"
"You won't believe me!" You interrupted, feeling stressed out.
"I'm sorry." The doctor quickly apologized, admitting defeat in order to calm you down without a fight.
"Ms. (Last). Are you aware that the owner of the apartment has passed away due to the fire?" The Police noted.
You froze in fear, feeling your head spin like a top. You couldn't believe that Lambda and Reeve killed an innocent person who wasn't involved at all. You felt like you were in despair, knowing that you had to take responsibilities.
"N-No, I... Didn't know that..." You lowered your heard, avoiding their gaze on you.
"..... You must cover all of the damages you've made---"
"How many times do I have to tell you? I didn't do it."
" Someone's gotta cover the damages. Are you on welfare?"
"No! I'm fine on my own! I can manage myself! I am responsible for my own actions but I am not---"
"Miss, please make our jobs easier. Where will you live since the apartment is entirely burned down? Do you have a close friend?" The policeman questioned you.
You gritted your teeth, having vengeance taking over your soul.
"You'll have to cover the damages or else you'll be heavily indebted."
"I-I don't have enough money to pay for the damages! I-I can't afford to!" You argued.
"Hmmm.... What about those old artifacts that you have in your house? Many of my men did a little inspection in the building to see that some ancient artifacts are still alive. If I remember clearly, they are worth quite a fortune." The Chief suggested.
"T-They're my dad's personal stuff! That's all I have left of him! I can't---"
You quickly thought about this. Your dad's precious artifacts that he found will save you from being homeless and in debt. But once they disappear, you won't ever get them back since they held many memories between you and your dad.
"Miss?" The doctor softly spoke.
You had to make a choice. You either have to sell your dad's precious belongings, or stay homeless and poor for the rest of your life, starting from square one all over again. And you remembered those days of survival. They were a living hell.
"It's always about money isn't it? Money this, money that." You covered your face in frustration and groaned.
"If you sell those artifacts, your debts will all be paid and you can live a normal life. You'll have enough to get a room for yourself." The doctor tells you.
"So how are we going to do this?" The Chief asks.
"....... I....."
You felt like you needed to talk to your dad about this. What would he do in this kind of situation?
"I.... Will sell them." You fell back on your bed, not giving a care in the world about the pain that shocked you as you collapsed tiredly.
"Okay. Perfect. This way, you'll be able to cover all of the expenses and the damages. We'll replace that old apartment. Where you live is up to you. We'll take care of it from here. Thank you for your cooperation, Ms. (Last)."As the police left with the doctor, you closed your eyes, dreaming the day you would strangle the crap out of those two evil creatures who destroyed you. Hatred was filled in that empty void of your heart. You're still incapable since you're leg is in a cast and your left eye is gone.
"You're very brave." A nurse came and interrupted your thoughts.
"You believe me, don't you?" You felt a single tear drop fall from the corner of your eye.
"Yeah." She nods, clutching onto her clipboard.
You weren't sure if the nurse was being honest or not. Either she felt sympathy for you or she saw the same way your fate has come down to. Nonetheless, all you needed was someone on your side.
(Two weeks later)....
"Isn't the sky so beautiful, Ms. (Last)?" The nurse asks you.
You sat in your wheelchair with a blanket covering your lap as you lifelessly stared at the view. You haven't smiled in a while. Nothing could cheer you up. A little fresh air every now and then would enlighten your mood but it only lasted for a couple minutes.
"Mmhm." You slowly nodded like a zombie.
"They say that it's going to get hotter this week. I'll be sure to take you out often when the sun comes out." The nurse comforted you.
"Thank you.." You sighed.
