The next day, you didn't want to go outside. Though the day seemed nice, it did not motivate you whatsoever. You remembered that you met Genos again and it hurt so much to see him. You groaned at the thought of him and kept your curtains closed. Your room was dark and cold. You didn't care much for the atmosphere. You glanced over at the piece of balled newspaper that you threw on the floor. You took the time to pick it up and flattened it out. You read the bold headline. It offended you when they noted that you were "careless" when your started the fire, and that the owner had died in that building, meaning that you were liable for the damages. You ripped it up to shreds in frustration.
"This is bullshit. You covered your face, reminding yourself that you lost your father's most prized possession in exchange for a roof over your head. A knock on the door disrupts you. As you approached your door, it took you a while to undo the three locks above your head. You installed them in case those two "idiots" were to trespass again. You left the chain locked to get a glimpse of the person on the other side of the door.
"Who is it?" You shyly asked, taking a peek.
"Uh, hiya---"
You quickly slammed your door shut and locked your doorknob. You were sure that you were hallucinating but you couldn't believe that Genos was there, in front of your doorstep, live and healthy.
"Miss?"
You recognized that voice. You confirmed that you weren't seeing things.
"Y-You again! What do you want this time?!" You stuttered, leaning against the door.
"I was wondering if you want these old things that my teacher didn't want. Thought you might want to make them into something." He stated.
"I don't want any! Leave me alone!" You yelled.
"Are you sure about that?"
You looked around the room to see that there wasn't much to do around so you decided to change your mind.
"....... Leave 'em there. I will pick them up." You spoke in a calm tone.
"Got it." He nods and gently set the box down in front of your door.
"......Hey..."
"Yes?" He leaned against the door to listen.
You hesitated to speak. You didn't want to tell him anything yet it was for his own protection.
"What is it, miss?" He asked.
"....... Don't you ever show your face here anymore....." You frowned, curling into a ball on your chair.
"Oh." You could hear his voice from the other side. It sounded as if he was a bit surprised.
For some reason, he was affected by it. He didn't know what harm he had brought to you in order for you to shoo him away. He just wanted to be nice yet he was receiving a negative response from you. He found himself feeling sad about your little warning. He became confused.
"I understand." His tone died down as he replied.
That wasn't what you wanted to say. In honesty, you wanted to see him again. You wanted to embrace him and convince yourself that everything will go back to the way it was. You didn't want to tell him to go away. It wasn't what you desired. Your eyes began to tear up as you heard him.
"I'm sorry for bothering you, miss."
You hoped that those words won't be the last you hear from him. He didn't deserve to apologize at all. He blamed himself for being at fault though he didn't know what it was for. You waited for him to leave as you dried your tears. You shook your head to get out of the state of depression. You opened the door to see old furniture and broken clocks. Many broken clocks.
"Why were these smashed?" You asked yourself as you examined one of the broken clocks.
You looked around before you brought the box inside and locked the door. You decided to start building and recreating new things with fresh ideas. You spent a good chunk of time sitting by your desk. As you worked on the broken clocks, a small voice can be heard from the inside.
"Good morning Sensei!~ Today is a bright morning!"
It was the sound of Genos's voice. You realized that he recorded this as an alarm in the clock you held onto. You quickly searched for some more recordings and found whatever survived.
"Sensei! It's time to wake up!'
"Sensei! There's a huge sale going on!"
"Sensei! Let's get up and train!"
Genos sounded so happy in those recordings. Saitama must be a very important person to him. It then gave you an idea. Instead of using disturbing noises as an alarm, you would set up alarms of Genos's voice. You also decided to record one of your own. You took one deep breath and began to record in an old broken tape that was from the box.
"Where do I begin?... Ah, okay.... "
